Friend of Comics Bulletin Madeleine Holly-Rosing, writer/creator of the comic Boston Metaphysical Society, announced the launch of her campaign to fund the printing of the final issue of the steampunk supernatural six issue mini-series. “It’s been three years in the making and the team has done a terrific job. I know the fans will not be disappointed.”
With art by Emily Hu and colors by Gloria Caeli, the story is about an ex-Pinkerton detective, a spirit photographer and a genius scientist who battle supernatural forces in late 1800’s Boston. It also includes such notable historical figures at Bell, Edison, Tesla and Houdini as part of the story line. “I feel so honored to be working with such an outstanding team. You’d never guess that this was everyone’s first book with the exception of Troy and Shawn, our letterers.” The comic received an Honorable Mention at the 2013 Geekie Awards and was nominated for Best Comic/Graphic Novel in 2014. It has also been consistently nominated for best webcomic by the Steampunk Chronicles Readers’ Choice Awards for the last three years.
With an MFA in Screenwriting from UCLA, Ms. Holly-Rosing brought her background of TV and feature film writing to the world of comics along with a love of history and science fiction. The comic began online three years ago and went to print with special 24 page editions a year later. “I am so thrilled to be able to bring this final issue to our fans. It has been an amazing journey. But don’t worry, the story of Samuel, Caitlin and Granville won’t end here.”
Former Comics Bulletin Publisher Jason Sacks is a big fan of the series saying, “I was hooked from the get-go by the appearances by Bell, Tesla, Houdini and Edison in the comic, but I fell in love with the intriguing story that she’s telling in this unique series.
This project will only be funded if at least $3,200 is pledged by Friday, November 6, 2015 at 12:06 PM PDT.
