mystery girl
Mystery Girl #2
Publisher: DARK HORSE COMICS
(W) Paul Tobin (A/CA) Alberto Alburquerque

The first issue of Mystery Girl was so wonderful. Trine is kind of like Dirk Gently. She just knows things. She doesn’t even have to leave her sidewalk to figure out any number of mysteries, she just knows the answer. As great as the first issue was, I was a little sad that Trine wasn’t going to be staying at her sidewalk office, helping her neighbors out, but was instead headed to Siberia. I liked getting the glimpse into her everyday life and I wish I could see more, but I’m still excited to see where her Siberian adventure will lead her!

The Eighth Seal #2
Publisher: IDW PUBLISHING
(W) James TynionIV (A) Jeremy Rock (CA) Ming Doyle

I am such a big fan of horror comics. This one is so eerie as the First Lady is having visions of herself as a monster. Every time she looks in a mirror, it’s not herself that she sees staring back, but a terrifying beast with many eyes and an elongated neck. In the second issue, we find out that she may not be the only one who knows about these visions and there may be more strange things going on then we initially realized.

If you don’t know how phenomenal Bitch Planet is yet, you are really missing out!! Bitch Planet is full of feminism and awesome ladies and amazingness and just read it. Like really really.

mythic
Mythic #6
Publisher: IMAGE COMICS
(W) Phil Hester (A) John McCrea, P. J. Holden (CA) John McCrea, Rian Hughes

My thoughts about Mythic are similar to my thoughts about Bitch Planet. You should be reading it!!! It’s all about a team of people whose job it is to keep all the mythical elements of our world from wreaking havoc. This is a lot harder than it would seem and leads to some pretty crazy encounters with giants and sentient mountains and dwarves. Their job is made even harder when a group of animatronic roboty thingermerjigs start setting an evil plot in motion.

archie
Archie #5
Publisher: ARCHIE COMIC PUBLICATIONS
(W) Mark Waid (A) Veronica Fish & Various (CA) Veronica Fish

The Archie reboot is so great!! It updates the world of Riverdale and gives us a modern look at the struggles of high school. We still have the classic Betty or Veronica debate going on, but with better fashion and also cellphones.

last contract
The Last Contract #1
Publisher: BOOM! STUDIOS
(W) Ed Brisson (A/CA) Lisandro Estherren

I’m not quite sure how I feel about this comic yet, but I think it has the potential to be really cool! It’s a little violent for me at this point. I don’t mind violence, but I like the violence to have a message or be unique or something. This violence was kind of violence for violence’s sake. The art was super awesome though and Ed Brisson is a talented writer of this kind of thing, so I think it could go really interesting places!
