Announcing the TRIPWIRE 21st Anniversary Kickstarter

Jason Sacks
March 24, 2013
Kickstarter Spotlight, News

What do we at Comics Bulletin read when we're not reading comics? One of our favorite publications is the UK's Tripwire magazine. That mag always serves up a wide and thoughtful selection of great content that celebrates comics and related media. When the Tripwire folks asked us to mention their Kickstarter project, we had to say yes to them. Below is their press release discussing the project. Please make sure to check out the project and their cool offerings, because this will be something pretty special.

2013 is a milestone year for Tripwire. This year, we celebrate twenty-one years of publication, moving from a primitive stapled fanzine to a full colour lavish magazine with high production values. In our two decades of existence, we have interviewed every major mover and shaker in the world of comics and genre, from Alan Moore to Frank Miller, Joss Whedon to Guillermo Del Toro and back again. We have made it our mission to reflect and analyse in an accessible and intelligent way the major trends in comics, film, TV and genre.

So when we decided to commemorate the anniversary of Tripwire, we wanted to do something that would be really special and would reflect the continuing ethos of the magazine. So Tripwire 21st Anniversary will be a must-buy book, through crowdfunding website Kickstarter, and in paperback also available at your local comic shop.

Clocking in at 176 pages and A4 in size, the book will include classic TRIPWIRE interviews with creators like Mike (Hellboy) Mignola, Alan (Watchmen, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) Moore, Frank Quitely (All-Star Superman, Batman & Robin), Grant Morrison (Batman Inc., Joe the Barbarian), Peter Milligan (Hellblazer, Justice League Dark), James (Starman, The Shade) Robinson and more. Also, it will feature a lot of brand new material like a selection of features looking at the key trends and issues of the past twenty years like the best and worst comic and genre movies 1992-2012, the twenty comic creators who have come to prominence over the last twenty years and topics like digital comics, the rise of the independent graphic novel and much more. It will also include a gallery of images, a selection of rarely seen and new for the book, from a stellar line-up of the best comic artists and illustrators in the business including:

  • Tim Bradstreet
  • Howard Chaykin
  • Dave Dorman
  • Garen Ewing
  • Duncan Fegredo
  • Henry Flint
  • Phil Hale
  • Jon Haward
  • Michael Kaluta
  • Joe Kubert
  • Roger Langridge
  • David Morris
  • Mike Mignola
  • Mike Perkins
  • Sean Phillips
  • Frank Quitely
  • Greg Ruth
  • Walter Simonson
  • Drew Struzan
  • Dave Taylor
  • Ben Templesmith
  • Chris Weston

It will be a celebration of both 21 years of acclaimed magazine Tripwire but also a look back at the seismic changes that have occurred in the comics industry. We have always loved comics and genre and with the current huge cultural impact that comics has thanks to the huge success of Avengers and Batman on the big screen and The Walking Dead on TV, we thought it was an appropriate time to bring this out.
