Boom! for 03/18/15: Giants!

Kyle Garret

Columns, This Week in BOOM!
Giant Days #1

Giant Days #1

Giant Days and Lumberjanes lead the way for me this week from Boom.

Burning Fields #3 (Of 8)(Cover A Colin Lorimer), $3.99
Burning Fields #3 (Of 8)(Cover B Riley Rossmo), AR

I’ve yet to jump on the Burning Fields bandwagon, although my fellow CBers really enjoy it.

Day Men Pen And Ink #2 (Cover A Brian Stelfreeze), $14.99

This is definitely a series worthy of a Pen and Ink edition.  Stelfreeze is doing great stuff here.

Eternal #3 (Of 4)(Cover A Frazer Irving), $3.99

I’m an issue behind on Eternal, but I enjoyed the first issue.

Giant Days #1 (Cover A Lissa Treiman), $3.99
Giant Days #1 (Cover B Shelli Paroline & Braden Lamb), AR
Giant Days #1 (Cover C Meredith Gran), AR

I’ve never read any of John Allison’s web comics, but I’m a sucker for stories that take place in college and I’m a sucker for stories that feature women in the lead roles.  So I’m getting this for sure.

Lumberjanes #12 (Cover A Carolyn Nowak), $3.99
Lumberjanes #12 (Cover B Brittney Williams), AR

You know, I’ve never read any reviews of Lumberjanes.  I say that because I really like this series, but I’m not entirely sure what the general public things about it.  I mean, I know it’s a hit, but what are people saying are its best points?  For me, it’s the unrivaled energy.  This series is like doing cocaine if cocaine were came with were-bears and velociraptors.

For more on this week’s Giant Days, as well as the new issue of Lumberjanes, check out Katy Rex’s exellent column “Girls Are Best Friends Forever.”

Peanuts #26 (Cover A Charles M. Schulz), $3.99

More Charlie Brown for your entertainment.  Speaking of which, if you like Charlie Brown you should check out Automatic Kafka.  They aren’t remotely similar, but there’s an issue of Automatic Kafka that features adult versions of the Peanuts crew.

Plunder 2

Plunder #2

Plunder #2 (Cover A Skuds McKinley), $3.99

The first issue of this series was just as great as I’d hoped, so I’m looking forward to another round.  It’s a horror story, yes, but it’s deeply rooted in the real world, so much so that the authenticity gives it another level of scary.

Regular Show #21 (Cover A Andy Hirsch), $3.99
Regular Show #21 (Cover B Ilias Kyriazis), $3.99

More quality Kaboom comics.

Rocket Salvage #4 (Of 6)(Cover A Bachan), $3.99

There’s a rich world in this comics, although I don’t know how invested I am in the story.  But the depth of the world is enough to make this entertaining.

Sons Of Anarchy #19 (Cover A Toni Infante), $3.99

Did this show end?

Bravest Warriors 2014 Impossibear Special #1 (Jeremy Sorese SDCC Variant Cover), $9.99
Bee And Puppycat #1 (Jeremy Sorese SDCC Variant Cover), $9.99
Robocop #1 (Mike Henderson Baltimore Comic-Con Variant Cover), $9.99
