Boom for 5/20/15: Aliens and Monsters and Pouches, Oh My!

Julia Walchuk
May 20, 2015
News, This Week in BOOM!

Clive Barker’s Nightbreed Volume 1 TP, $14.99

The first volume of Nightbreed, based on Clive Barker’s 1990 horror flick, collects the first four issues of Nightbreed and monsters galore!

Hexed #10 (Cover A Dan Mora), $3.99

This issue of Hexed is a special flashback issue! Origin stories abound, hooray!

Lumberjanes #14 (Cover A Brooke A. Allen), $3.99

Lumberjanes #14 (Cover B Joy Ang), AR

Lumberjanes is one of my favorite series coming out right now. It’s fun and spunky and talks a lot of unexpected turns. For example: in this issue there’s a snowstorm at summer camp and someone riding a moose! If you’re not already reading this series, start now!

oh, killstrike

Oh Killstrike #1 (Of 4)(Cover A Logan Faerber), $3.99

Oh Killstrike #1 (Of 4)(Cover B Frazer Irving), AR

Oh Killstrike #1 (Of 4)(Cover C Kris Anka), AR

Oh Killstrike #1 (Of 4)(Cover D David LaFuente), $3.99

This was a fantastic first issue. It was full of pouches and muscles upon muscles, Liefeld style.Bursting with comic book nostalgia, it looks at the struggles of growing up and taking on the responsibilities of adulthood while also lovingly teasing the 90s era of comics.

Peanuts #28 (Cover A Charles M. Schulz), $3.99

Peanuts continues to be lovely, as always. I don’t think it’s possible to not love Charlie Brown and crew.

Sons Of Anarchy #21 (Cover A Toni Infante), $3.99

In all honesty, I have not read Sons of Anarchy, but my older brothers absolutely loved the show. Whenever I think about it I just picture a lot of motorcycles. It seems like a story that would do well in comic form.

ufology

UFOlogy #2 (Cover A Matthew Fox), $3.99

After reading UFOlogy #1 I decided that this series would be my bunker book. (If you were locked in a bunker and could have the full run of only one series brought to you in said bunker, what would it be?) My friends were aghast that I would choose a series with only one issue out for my bunker book, but I never questioned my decision and with the release of #2, I’m happier than ever with my choice. UFOlogy has aliens and giant eyeballs and it is wonderful. It reminds me of X-Files, but with better colors and more interesting characters.
