My pal Madeleine Holly-Rosing, writer/creator of the steampunk webcomic BOSTON METAPHYSICAL SOCIETY announced she would be launching a Kickstarter campaign on Wednesday, October 16th to finish the last three issues in the six issue mini-series. “I always finish what I start,” Ms. Holly-Rosing commented, “So I’m reaching out to our fans to help complete this story arc.”
The story is about an ex-Pinkerton detective, his spirit photographer partner and a genius scientist who battle supernatural forces in late 1800’s Boston. Unlike many steampunk stories which are set in Victorian England, this one takes place in America and involves such historical icons as Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Nikola Telsa and Harry Houdini. But what really stands out is the character of Granville Woods, an African-American engineer who lived in the same time period.
“My stories revolve around the American experience and you can’t do that without having women and people of color in the story line.”
Ms. Holly-Rosing is hoping to raise $25,000 which will cover the cost of the art, coloring, lettering and production of the last three issues along with shipping, postage and fees. Like most comic Kickstarters, one of the many incentives is a softbound trade of all six chapters. The Kickstarter Campaign will run for thirty days and end on November 15.
