Our friend James H, Burns alerts us to this heartbreaking story of a fire at a strip mall in Huntington Station, Long Island, New York, in which longtime comic book store Collector’s Kingdom
burned down. The shop was a Long Island landmark for 32 years, so its loss affects all of us who love comics. All the best to everyone who was affected by the fire.
See and read the bad news here.
This is terrible news. I used to live not far from there, and while I didn’t go into CK very much before moving away, but they remained something of a local fixture for comics fans. Their nickname was “Crowded Kingdom” because of how densely packed the inside was.
It looks from the video like this was a great classic old school type of comic shop, with great old merchandise stuck in every nook and cranny of the overcrowded store. There are fewer and fewer of these kinds of classic places around these days.
