In May 2018 Jamie Foxx nabbed the role of Spawn in the upcoming film of (presumably) the same name. He stated that he is good friends with Todd McFarlane, the creator of Spawn. Todd pitched the idea to all the studios. Only one studio, Blumhouse Productions, green-lit his movie with only $10-$12 million budget. Blumhouse has produced a lot of low-budget, highly profitable movies like The Purge, Get Out, and Paranormal Activity, so the micro-budget for Spawn isn’t too surprising. In July, Jeremy Renner has nabbed the role of Twitch Williams. Twitch is part of the Sam and Twitch team, both NYPD police detectives. Twitch is the brain and Sam is the brawn in this team. Both first appeared in 1992’s Spawn #1With only $10-$12 million for this new Spawn movie, Todd will have a tight budget. Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Renner will need to take a lower salary for this movie to work. This new Spawn movie will not be an origin movie.
In August, it has been confirmed Greg Nicotero of AMC’s The Walking Dead will help design Spawn costume. Greg and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane has been friends for years. Greg worked with the Spawn movie back in 1997. He was in the animatronic creature and special effects department. That movie grossed $87 million worldwide with $40 million production costs. Spawn movie news have been slow, there was an interview with Todd McFarlane in January. He mentioned the movie will be “ugly, dark, two hours of movie”.
Back in October, we heard Spawn movie will go into production in March 2019. Now it won’t start filming in June 2019.
Today is June 1. Last week, Todd had an interview. He stated he is waiting for all the right “players.”

Spawn first appeared in Spawn #1 (May 1992) written and drawn by Todd McFarlane. Spawn has superhuman strength, agility, and endurance. He has an immortality to a certain extent. He can teleport, shape shift and resurrect.
A copy  of Spawn #1 CGC 9.8 sold  for $125 plus shipping on ebay on August 30. There were two sales of Spawn #1 CGC 9.8 sold for $113.50 and $124.96 plus shipping on October 6 and October 7, respectively. One copy sold for $92.00 on January 2 and another sold for $89.88 on January 3. Prices dropped due to Christmas?
Prices went back up after the holidays because there was one sale for $103.50 on April 6 and another for $124.95 on April 6.
On May 24, a copy sold for $114.95 plus shipping.
Will this movie ever get made? This movie keeps getting pushed back. With that low budget, it is hard to make a superhero movie. All that money will end up going to CGI.
Final Recommendation: Sell
