Amazing Cosplay Portraits From SDCC 2011

A column article, Comics Bulletin Soapbox by: Kevin Knight

The San Diego Comic Con has always been my home away from home. Each year I'll spend time trolling amongst the rows and rows of the convention center letting my geek flag fly.

This year was different. This year I had hooked up with Trickster, a indie comic book creator crew that ran a indie convention across the street from the convention center. With enough space to set up some lights, we grabbed random Cosplayers as they walked by. Here are some of my favorites. For more of my pictures, visit theshutterclick.com.

1. Bubafett - I saw pictures of William Zavala's Bubafett from Wondercon earlier in the year, and thought it was one of the greatest ideas I've seen since Boba Phat! I just happened to spot William about 2 blocks away from where we were set up. I chased him down and dragged him back to our studio space. Still one of my favorite shots!

2. Killer Frost - Tracy Ho and I had been talking about doing a photo shoot for quite some time now, so when she showed up at our little studio space dressed as DC's queen of cold, Killer Frost, I was blown away! The effort and detail she put into her costume was pretty amazing!

3. Echo Four - I had heard about Eryq Ramz's Star Wars based Storm Trooper Echo Four from a few people. The design came from a trooper that showed up in one of the prequels for a split second.

4. Obi Wan Kenobi - Sometimes shooting these photos is like shooting my childhood idols! This Cosplay of Obi Wan Kenobi is no exception, it was as if Sir Alec Guinness were sitting in front of me.

And here are some of my other favorites!
