Home Improvement for the Flying Fist RanchA column article, Busted Knuckles by: Beau Smith
Well, it's been in the works for some time now, what you ask, the remodeling of The Flying Fist Ranch website. Webmaster and "King of the Kiwis", Jason Brice, has been working very hard to replace some of the shingles, add some coats of paint and remove bodies from under the floorboards at The Flying Fist Ranch website. He has completed his work. The new additions and doorknobs all look good and work.
For the longest time I've been making lists of things I wanted to update my site with and as always, make it easier for you "Knuckleheads" to navigate as well as entertain you. Jason came in and got right to it and in most cases made it even better than I could've asked for or deserved.
The changes here at The Flying Fist Ranch website are subtle, but useful, much like myself. You'll now be able to read the latest news and post your comments on the items as well as respond and reply to Beau's "Manly Thoughts of the Day" that I'll post up when the manly mood hits me. I strongly urge you to post up comments. It'll make me feel appreciated. You know how I have such a bad case of low self-esteem.
You'll find an ever-growing list of manly links that may interest you as well as other links that discuss everyone's favorite subject--ME! The Manly Art and Photo Galleries are now easier to navigate and if you check out the contents/tool bar at the top of the site, you'll find all sorts of new additions and informative spots to visit at The Ranch.
I look forward to your comments and questions. All you have to do is provide them. Look for more additions and changes here at The Ranch because there are more coming. Make this your one stop for a testosterone tune up. I'm always looking for suggestions as well, especially if they agree with my own. Come see me real soon.
It's A WinterWorld Wonderland!
Chuck Dixon (w) • Jorge Zaffino (a & c)
On Sale Now.
Chuck Dixon & Jorge Zaffino's long out-of-print classic is finally collected! In a bleak and desolate future, when our world has been encased in ice from pole to pole, an amoral adventurer and an orphaned girl form an unlikely alliance-and together fight tooth and nail to stay alive. This features the stunning, groundbreaking artwork of Jorge Zaffino.
As a special bonus, this hardcover also collects the never-before-published sequel, Wintersea!
WinterWorld is a MUST buy for everyone. It reads like a movie put to print. The art is simply amazing and there's good reason that almost every comic book artist in the last 20 years has continued to talk about the art of Zaffino in WinterWorld in legendary ways. When the originalWinterWorld series came out from Eclipse Comics, I was VP of sales and marketing for them. Other than my own work, I can never remember promoting a book with so much pride. The original series was printed in color, I have to say, I was always against that. Seeing the book as it was in the works in black and white I always felt that was the way it was meant to be. The stark and bleak story of WinterWorld looked so right in black and white. It read of black and white. It smelled black and white. Now, finally it's published in black and white! Ted Adams and the fine folks at IDW Publishing have done a magnificent job in putting WinterWorld in hardcover format. Editor, Scott Dunbier has captured all the best qualities of WinterWorld and placed them lovingly in this very affordable format.
But there's more…
Not only will you be able to see and read the original three issue series, but you'll also get the never before published sequel to WinterWorld called Wintersea by Dixon & Zaffino. As close as I was to the project this is the first time I've ever got to see and read it. This is truly a Christmas present for me. I think you'll feel the same way. Buy WinterWorld and find out why it has been the buzz of comic book creators for twenty years. You owe it to yourself.

Busted Knuckles Babe of the Week: Lynn Collins
As always, the most stunning women come from Texas. Lynn Collins is another fine example of it. Most of you know the tall, dark haired beauty from the movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine or perhaps your wife or girlfriend knows her from True Blood, I first noticed her in an episode of Push, Nevada. She is a real looker with a lot of acting range. Her next film, John Carter of Mars. should make that even more widely known. Make sure you put that film and Lynn Collins on your entertainment radar.
Busted Knuckles Manly Cover Of The Week: Guy Gardner: Warrior #39
"Merriment, Mistletoe And Mayhem"
I've always prided myself for being a comic book writer that respects tradition as well as embraces everything new in comics. I was honored to be a part of this year's DC Holiday Special 2009 and back in 1996 I welcomed the opportunity to do a Guy Gardner Christmas story during my two year run with ol' Guy. It was a fun issue to do. I tried to make it a cross between a humorous John Wayne (ThinkDonovan's Reef) movie and still tug at the old heart strings with a little touch of the Jimmy Stewart movieIt's A Wonderful Life. I think we pulled it off. Then again, I'm biased. I hope you enjoy the cover and if you get the chance, look for it in the back issue bin of you local comic book retailer or on Ebay. Merry Christmas from Guy Gardner and the gang at Warrior's.
It seem like yesterday that I was sitting here writing The Roundup section for Busted Knuckles 2008, but another whole year has gone by. One day it's summer and I'm out hiking in shorts and t-shirt and before you know it I'm digging out of this east coast snowstorm. Time passage is funny like that. Yesterday I took my dogs, Chubb and Blue outdoors and let them run wild in the snow. The chased every wild animal they could find, they scared old people (well, people in general) and they left "yard fudge" as their own little Christmas gift for all to find...or step in. Large Smith family festivities are still yet to happen here in the next few days, as always, a good time will be had by all.
All of my Christmas preparations are pretty much done here at the Ranch. The tree is up, decorated and lit up. Gifts have been bought, wrapped and delivered/shipped off. We've got snow, what's left? Oh, yeah...Christmas…The big day!
I hope all of you Knuckleheads have a wonderful Christmas. It would be great if there are some comic book related stuff under your tree. That's a tradition that all of us long time comic book readers would love to continue.
Thank you all for sticking with me and continuing to read not only Busted Knuckles, but all of the books I've written and continue to write. That sure means a lot to me. A major thanks goes out to Jason Brice and Jason Sacks for always putting up with and posting up my Busted Knuckles column and my website. Their eyes must be ready to pop out of their skulls after all this time. They do it without complaints. They are truly real men.
Please be safe and enjoy the time you spend with your family and friends. Know that you always have a friend here at The Flying Fist Ranch. Just don't think the milk and cookies or beer and chili cheese fritos are for you. Those are for my fat friend in the red suit and the white beard. I hope he brings me that vintage case of Grizzly beer and Rhona Mitra like I asked for….
Merry Christmas from all of us here at the Ranch.
