Arsenio Hall Runs the NetworkA column article, Paranoid Video by: Dylan Garsee, Nick Hanover
No longer content to merely review television through the creative use of Friskies gifs and awkward jokes, Dylan Garsee and Nick Hanover have moved on to the internet airwaves, co-hosting CB's own entertainment podcast, Paranoid Video.
Paranoid Video Episode 1.16-
"Arsenio Hall Runs the Network"
The wait is over as Dylan follows up his Emmy predictions with...a big slice of humble pie, as the usually prophetic award show obsessee more or less failed to predict every winner this year. But that's okay, because there to comfort Dylan is NBC, who made yet another odd networking decision. Meanwhile, I went on a pretty awkward date to go see The Master, which may or may not have made me enjoy the film much less than Dylan did. And speaking of distractions, our feature discussion this week is media you can enjoy while being otherwise occupied.
As always, you can listen to the episode at the player below or download it here.
Our combo news/Emmy follow-up/box office examination segment runs until 28:23 and some of the many bizarre things we mention are...
A video about taste testing ice cream:
This week's That's That Shit, which features even more Dredd 3D talk.
And Samsara, which unfortunately isn't on Video on Demand, but it is playing at these theatres across the US.
We then took a brief musical break, letting Harry Nilsson do his thing on "It Is He Who Will Be King (Outro) Daybreak" before moving on to our discussion of P.T. Anderson's much hyped The Master, which is in theatres now. That conversation runs from 28:48 until 50:40.
And to finish things off, we treat you to a snippet of Model 500's "Future" discuss media you can enjoy while doing other things. You know, like playing Dynasty Warriors Gundam while recording Comics Bulletin's second favorite podcast, or watching Purple Rain while folding laundry. That sort of thing.
And in case you want to know what we look like, here is a visual representation of Dylan and myself, courtesy of Emily Marie Palmer:
Dylan Garsee is a freelance writer/bingo enthusiast currently living in Austin, TX. He is studying sociology, and when he's not winning trivia nights at pork-themed restaurants, writing a collection of essays on the gay perspective in geek culture. An avid record collector, Dylan can mostly be seen at Waterloo Records, holding that one God Speed You! Black Emperor record he can't afford and crying. You can follow him on twitter @garseed.
When he's not writing about the cape and spandex set and functioning as the Co-Managing Editor of Comics Bulletin, Nick Hanover is a book, film and music critic who has contributed to Spectrum Culture, No Tofu Magazine, Performer Magazine, Port City Lights and various other international publications. By which he means Canadian rags you have no reason to know anything about. He also translates for "Partytime" Lukash's Panel Panopticon and you can follow him on twitter @Nick_Hanover
