Grant Morrison is a comic book superstar, but back in 1989 he was just starting to earn his credentials. We begin Serious Issues with a look at Morrison’s first issue of Doom Patrol –an issue that would pave the way for one of the most bizarre, creative and literate series of it’s time. Though cherished by fans, we set out to see if this pinnacle of comic book history would appeal to an audience unfamiliar with comic books. Is this “serious issue” a great literary landmark, or does its appeal begin and end with the comic book collector?
