Madeleine Holly-Rosing, writer/creator of the steampunk comic Boston Metaphysical Society announced the publication of her book, Kickstarter for Independent Creators. Having successfully funded two Kickstarters for her comic Boston Metaphysical Society in 2014, writer/creator, Ms. Holly-Rosing shares her very specific and practical strategies for running a successful Kickstarter with a goal of under 10K. “There are tons of crowdfunding books on the market, but none that deal with the smaller goals of the independent creator. And having watched so many wonderful projects not make their funding goal because they were unprepared, I decided I needed to do something about it.”
Having taught Kickstarter strategy at Pulp Fiction Books and Comics in Culver City this past year, the book expands on the class by covering social media, PR, preparing your email list, interviews/podcasts, developing your Kickstarter page and your video, pre-launch strategy, campaign strategy, crunching those numbers, avoiding postage pitfalls and fulfillment. The book is designed for individual creators who cannot afford to hire a team or a PR person.
A former marketing director turned professional writer, Ms. Holly-Rosing brings not only the perspective of success, but failure as well. “Our first Kickstarter campaign failed due to lack of preparedness, but we re-strategized and re-launched three months later and we’re fully funded in less than 48 hours. I want to teach creators that they can achieve success even if they have failed before.”
