Lily shape-shifts into a boy to get the girl of her dreams, only to face the consequences of pretending to be someone she’s not in Flutter an LGBTQ indie. Flutter is a graphic novel series about a girl who shape-shifts into a boy to get the girl. Over the course of the series, she learns that being a guy has its own difficulties and pretending to be someone else has consequences. We are told that Flutter is a collaboration between Jennie Wood and Jeff McComsey and Volume One was a full color graphic novel released in 2013 with the indie publisher 215 Ink. This year, the duo will once again be working with 215 Ink to publish the second volume of Flutter. 215 Ink is a small press publisher fighting the good fight. They’ve used all of the resources they have available to support Flutter. However, the one thing they’ve yet to accomplish with 215 Ink is getting enough copies of the full color graphic novels printed so that they can get them into comic shops.

This is where fandom, crowd-sourcing and Kickstarter come in. With the help of fans, they can print enough copies of Flutter, Vol. 1 & 2 to work directly with a distributor and get the books into comic shops. All of the money raised by this Kickstarter will go towards printing copies of Flutter, Vol. 1 & 2. Any money they raise over their initial goal will go toward printing more Flutter. With comics and graphic novels are more popular than ever and the success of mainstream books such as Young Avengers and Ms. Marvel proves that the demand for diverse storytelling is growing. Making Flutter available for anyone who needs or wants to read it is their goal. Not only will you be helping them accomplish this dream, but you’ll be supporting 215 Ink, an indie press that provides a nurturing, supportive publishing home for comic artists and writers.

The Flutter story thus far is that while the root of Flutter comes from Wood’s childhood — growing up in a small, conservative town, thinking her life would be easier as a boy — this project is a complete 50-50 collaboration with McComsey. Along with copies of Flutter, Vol. 1 & 2, they are also offering copies of other books by the pair as rewards, including Wood’s YA novel, A Boy Like Me, and Jeff’s graphic novel, Mother Russia as well as loads of original art rewards. An INDIEFAB Book of the Year finalist, A Boy Like Me is also published by 215 Ink. It’s edited by Kelly Ford and 215 Ink’s Editor In Chief Mike Perkins. Mother Russia is a graphic novel by Jeff based on one of the first two stories that originally launched FUBAR.

Wood is also offering a one on one version of the graphic novel / comic writing class that she teaches at Grub Street, as well as various manuscript consultations, including a novel manuscript consultation by both writer/editor Kelly Ford and her. Read more about Kelly’s work here. They also have some fun rewards if they hit our stretch goals.

This project will be funded on Tuesday, May 12, 2015.
