Kickstarter Spotlight: Toe Tag Riot

Robert Sodaro
June 17, 2014
Kickstarter Spotlight, News

If you are looking for a fun, full-color, horror-comedy comic series with an inclusive, positive message, that includes Zombie punks vs. bigots, racists, and misogynists, then you might want to check out Toe Tag Riot! Toe Tag Riot is a hilariously gory mash up of rad stuff like Night of the Living Dead, a GWAR live show, and hardcore punk rock, Toe Tag Riot is a tongue-in-cheek, lighthearted torrential downpour of blood and guts sure to please anyone who loves fun and hates jerks like Million Moms, Nazi Skinheads, Dudebros and the Westboro Baptist Church!

The book is written by Matt Miner (Liberator, Occupy Comics, Liberator/Earth Crisis), illustrated by Sean Von Gorman (Pawn Shop, FUBAR, Occupy Comics, Secret Adventures of Houdini), colored by John Rauch (Invincible, Venom, The Darkness), and features Cover Art by Tristan Jones (Hoax Hunters, Ghostbusters, TMNT, Silent Hill). Toe Tag Riot is a 4-issue full-color mini-series and this Kickstarter’s goal is to fund the whole thing so they don’t need to fundraise again and again.

Toe Tag Riot is the story of a struggling street punk band of the early 2000s who are cursed with temporary, recurring zombification that transforms them whenever they perform their music. This curse was meant to destroy their career, by a woman who clearly understood nothing, because Toe Tag Riot’s new monster-punk look only propels the band into punk rock stardom. As it turns out they become ethical sometimes-zombies that, which makes our brave decomposing undead musicians able to resist their urges to snack on normal human flesh and only make meals of the scummiest, grossest, and vilest scum that litter this Earth.

Finding that the transformation back into regular, filthy, punk rockers is taking longer and longer each time, the band determines to go on one final cross-country tour, chasing the cure to what ails them and wind up hilariously-yet-brutally slaughtering the worst of humanity along the way to an explosive showdown with The Westboro Baptist Church.

Toe Tag Riot is an LGBTQ-positive book, and inclusive to everyone except bigots. Bigots are zombie food. Toe Tag Riot is a fun book with a positive message and a diverse cast of wacky characters. Issue #1 offers up a standard cover by Tristan Jones, with colors by Doug Garbark.

Sean and Matt have run successful Kickstarters in the past,  are experienced comic creators, and know what needs to be done. They’ve learned from all the newbie Kickstarter mistakes that they made the first time around and now they have a super-strong grasp of how everything works. They expect things to be super smooth. Assuming they hit full funding on this project, there is a publisher lined up to take on this super awesome creator-owned book.

This project will only be funded if at least $19,000 is pledged by Saturday, June 21 2014.
