Despite a relatively light week of premiere titles, we were able to find a good amount of books worth checking out. Though only 6 books made the posting, there’s a lot of good material worthy of honorable mention status such as Wonder Woman #68 and Ronin Island #2. However, we’re not here to talk about those books. We’re here to talk about these:
Age of Conan: Bêlit #2 (Marvel Comics)
(w) Tini Howard (i) Kate Niemczyk
I thoroughly enjoyed the first issue and the origin story it was setting up with my only negative being the art not matching the story. With this second issue finally coming out I find myself excited to read how Howard progresses the narrative.

Detective Comics #1001 (DC Comics)
(w) Peter J. Tomasi (p) Brad Walker
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the humongous 1000 issue (Read here) but I don’t give up so easily especially when it’s about one of my favorite characters. It also helps that Peter J. Tomasi is a writer I really enjoy on the Bat-family, Super-family, and any Justice League title. Here’s to hoping this issue picks up and hits the ground running with an interesting take on Arkham Knight. I have to make mention that I love the new logo and hope it sticks around for awhile!

Fairlady #1 (Image Comics)
(w) Brian Schirmer (a) Claudia Balboni (c) Marissa Louise
I’m a sucker for a comic that tells a whole story arc in a single issue and that’s exactly what Fairlady promises in each 30 page Fairlady Mystory. That alone can make me want to read a comic, but the premise for this comic sounds pretty great. Taking place after a epic war we follow Jenner Faulds as the only female Private Investigator that takes place in a fantasy world. I love Noir, and Fantasy stories so mix that in with a complete case in each issue and you have something I would love to read!

Faithless #1 (BOOM! Studios)
(w) Brian Azzarello (a) Maria Llovet
I hate to say it, but Brian Azzarello is a writer that tends to run hot and cold. Rarely is one of his series average – they’re either really good or really bad. But because of that tendency, he’s a writer who people should always take a chance on. This is especially true when he’s free of the constraints of superhero comics. To that end, Faithless quickly jumped on my radar as a book to pick up. While the cover from Paul Pope is stunning, the previewed interiors by Maria Llovet are just as fascinating. Add to that one hell of a premise, and BOOM! Studios has made my bank account $3.99 lighter.

Orphan Age #1 (Aftershock Comics)
(w) Ted Anderson (a) Nuno Plati
On the surface, Orphan Age looks to borrow a lot from the acclaimed Y: The Last Man. A mysterious epidemic wipes out the planet’s entire adult population, leaving the world’s children to pick up the pieces. I already have a lot of questions, and the premise has potential for social and political commentary. I’m admittedly unfamiliar with either of the creators, but Aftershock has a good track record (who we need to give more coverage) which makes taking a chance a worthwhile gamble.

Wonder Twins #3 (DC Comics)
(w) Mark Russell (a) Stephen Byrne
I feel Like much words aren’t needed to explain why I’m looking forward to the third issue in this fantastic series. I’ve been spreading the gospel to many of how great this comic is and how it should be on everyone’s pull list, and if it isn’t, then why!??
