PIXEL COUNT: Video Game News Roundup for October 31, 2011A game news article
Happy Halloween, girls and ghouls! I had wanted to do some kind of Halloween-themed post, but had no idea how one could do such a thing with a video game news column. That said, I still wish you all a great night of fun and unadulterated activities that belong in a Joe Eszterhas-penned film! May you all get your Batman and slutty Catwoman (or, as we all know her, Catwoman). But don't feel bad because you have to settle for a Robin or a Batman: Arkham City Harley Quinn. Sidekicks need lovin' too!
Not only is it the non-Halloween Halloween post, but the tenth roundup to go up, as well. Oh, how I remember the good ol' days. You know, back when the posts were nothing but text on a page and I used to do things like make dumb jokes and say that Robin Williams' daughter -- Zelda Williams -- was hot. Well, I still do most of those things, but we got pictures now!
But not only pictures, but we're getting some great feedback from pretty high-profile individuals. Danny Djeljosevic, co-managing editor of Comics Bulletin, says of the series, "You started a video game news roundup on our comics site?" Rafael Gaitan, writer on sites like Comics Bulletin, says, "Are you still doing that?!" Freshman writer on Comics Bulletin, Nick Boisson, has said on numerous occasions, "I think these video games news posts are notably adequate." And Jason Sacks, editor-in-chief of Comics Bulletin says, "I don't mind these posts, but we better not get e-mails trashing the newly-minted Infinite Ammo section because readers see these posts!" Honestly, the excitement over this column is all I need to keep this thing going! (Let's hope my colleagues here don't sue me for libel.)
Anyway, let's get all you kids up-to-date with the latest video game news in the still not-canceled video game news roundup that has been called the "best video game news roundup on any site called Comics Bulletin" (co-managing editor, Morgan Davis)...
Battlefield 3 sells 5 million copies in its first week!
EA games noted last week that they had shipped 10 million copies of their new shooter, Battlefield 3, in the first week. EA's largest game shipment to date. But we are now hearing that sales of the game have totaled beyond 5 million copies for their first week! This has made Battlefield 3 the fastest-selling game in EA's history!
Bravo to EA and all the folks who just bought the game because they will get early access to the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer demo!

Classic Sonic will go back to being a dead hedgehog soon enough...
One of the main reasons why fans became so excited to play Sega and Team Sonic's Sonic Generations is because it marked the return of "Classic" Sonic. And Sega has been making a BIG deal out of that since it was first announced. But, with all that, Sega has stated that there are "no plans" to bring "Classic" Sonic back.
European brand manager at Sega had this to say:
"The reason for bringing him back for this game was because this is a celebration of 20 years of Sonic. It was a real fitting time to do it. He’s really well loved. Let’s see how Generations does. You can never say never in this industry, but at the moment there are no plans."
It is a bit odd to make such a hoopla over bringing "Classic" Sonic back for the new game, but then deciding that he will go back to being a thing of the past for all future releases. Let's hope that Sega is not that clueless.

The maker of Angry Birds isn't all that angry about Chinese piracy
Rovio -- developers of a little game that you may have heard of called Angry Birds -- has decided to use the flagrant piracy of their licensed products in China to their advantage.
Angry Birds has become the most copied brand in China and Rovio are using these illegal products to make better products for their customers and reach a larger audience.
Rovio CEO, Peter Vesterbacka, had this to say:
"The way we look at it is, of course we want to sell the officially licensed, good quality products, but at the same time we have to be happy about the fact that the brand is so loved that it is the most copied brand in China. ... We actually expect to do a lot of services, a lot of products, [in China] first. It's a different approach to some of our competitors. We want to be more Chinese than the Chinese companies."
I like the idea of a company using piracy of their brand as a way to making better products. You know that a company like Warner Bros. or Disney would not be as quick to use forgery of their brands as a way of learning about their consumers.

Obsidian Entertainment is developing a project for an animation franchise?
Obsidian Entertainment -- known by most gamers as the developers that make awful to adequate sequels to popular franchises (i.e. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II and Fallout: New Vegas) -- was recently outed by Digital Development Management to be developing an "unannounced project for [a] leading animation franchise".
Unfortunately, this is all that was said. No clue on which of the properties that DDM handles (and there are quite a many) it could be, but this is interesting news to hear. What animation franchise would Obsidian be handling? Personally, I really want to see a Bobby's World action-adventure title...

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive beta not quite making that October window...
Valve had previously announced a beta for the return of one of the biggest online shooters to ever hit the Interweb --Counter-Strike: Global Offensive -- to hit this October. With it being the final day of this long month, Valve has now announced that the beta has been delayed due to concerns raised by professional gamers who have played the current build.
Valve's Chet Faliszek had this to say:
"They gave us a lot of feedback on things we should get in the game before we release it, otherwise we're going to be getting a lot of bug reports or a lot of feedback and it would just be redundant."
While many gamers out there are dying to see whether Counter-Strike could once again rule their online existence, they will need to wait this one out.
My feeling about the whole game is that the "modern warfare" shooter is becoming as boring and overused as the WWII shooter was about five years back. I wonder if it means that Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will start a new trend of futuristic shooters. That will get old quick...

New MechWarrior game to be a PC exclusive?!
One of many franchises that I have missed this generation is the MechWarrior franchise. Maybe not the highest on my list (that honor would go to Oddworld Inhabitants' Oddworld franchise), but it has been noticeably absent. So when Piranha Games announced that it was developing a new MechWarrior title, I got excited. But then, after not hearing about it for two years, I had completely forgotten that it was even happening.
Now Piranha has come out to give a bit of info on the new game: it will be a PC exclusive title.
Since I no longer have a gaming PC, I guess I need to go back to forgetting that it exists.

But here is one of Marvel's Rocket Raccoon! This is reason to get the game alone!
GoldenEye 007: Reloaded Launch Trailer
When announced, I wasn't all that excited for this game. But every time I see more, I want it. It will be released tomorrow (November 1), for those wondering.
