Huge thanks to our latest guest Arvind Ethan David for coming on the Reboot Comic Book Club!
Arvind is pretty much the caretaker of the Dirk Gently: Holistic Detective Agency adaptations, overseeing Douglas Adams‘ creation as an executive producer of the new television series (starring Elijah Wood) as well as writing the comic book for IDW.
We speak at length about how long his love for this character goes back (he wrote a play about it!) as well as his love of Mike Carey‘s Lucifer!
This classic 90s series saw art contributions from many greats such as Peter Gross, Ryan Kelly, Dean Ormston, Scott Hampton, Chris Weston, and James Hodgkins.
Arvind on Lucifer:
“It is both epic and intimate at the same time… All of Mike’s writing is like this… he makes you simultaneously very interested in the small details of a character’s life, including people who seem like incidentally characters… And then you’ve got Lucifer who is fighting the ultimate stakes… Fundamentally the series is about a son outgrowing his father’s shadow. And the big arc is of a man who is fed up with being told who he’s supposed to be and wants to be something new. To make that both a deeply personal, intimate, human story AND a 75-issue, multi-universe, multi-pantheon spanning epic is just breathtaking.”
