Magen has chosen the first volume of Shutter from Image Comics, by Joe Keatinge, Leila Del DucaOwen Gieni, and (former podcast guest) Ed Brisson.

It’s the story of a girl who rejects her legacy, only for that legacy to come back with a vendetta and lots of angry goons. Set in a world where fantasy meets reality, Kate Kristopher is trying to determine who is friend, foe, family, or maybe a combination of all three.

 Magen on Shutter:
“That’s what I really love, the sort of subtleties of the material and comic making in general and how it’s folded into the narrative and becomes a really palpable part of it, it’s just kind of exciting to me and not something I see very often… I just get so excited reading it. They take so many risks that pay off because the setup is there. It’s just that freedom to tell stories on such a visual level, it’s really exciting.”
