DC had to go and reboot again, canceling three of my favorite ongoing superhero comics today: Black Canary, Omega Men, and Midnighter.
The latter series just ended with issue 12, released last week, capping Steve Orlando and ACO’s definitive run (YEAH, I SAID IT) on the character. That’s why we’ve welcomed back Ray Sonne and Chase Magnett, fellow writers at Comics Bulletin, to discuss the second and final volume of Midnighter.
Ray was on the show a while ago to discuss the first volume of Midnighter as well as WWAC’s round-up of Midnighter Week. She brings along our pal Chase so we can unpack the finale, its greater importance to the DCU and comics in general, all while pontificating the finer aspects of comic book beefcake.
Ray on the last issue of Midnighter:
“The first page is a reference to a panel I have hanging up on my desk at work. That ‘Don’t piss us off’ page? It’s an Authority page. And I grinned so hard and I just did not expect to have this swell of positive feelings the first page. Along with the cover … it’s the best part of both the characters and the creators’ attitudes in this book.”
Chase on comic book beefcake:
“You know how they did those X-Men swimsuit issues where it was all the girls drawn by Milo Manara? We should do Boys of the Batcave.”
