Preview: Horror Series SWEET HEART Coming in March from Action Lab

What’s scarier than one killer monster? Multiple killer monsters. That’s what new horror series Sweet Heart from Action Lab’s Danger Zone imprint is promising. In the preview provided, this looks to have a grittier, more grounded look that the publisher’s typical offerings – fitting for a book looking to scare the wits out of readers.

SWEET HEART: Imagine Stephen King’s “IT” but there’s more than one Pennywise and the entire town knows about them.

Sweet Heart #1_Cover-A_High Res

SWEET HEART is an emotional horror story about a child with contempt for their parents’ decision to conceive them into a “feeder family” and must overcome self-loathing and public ridicule to save themselves, their family, and a town with no interest in being saved from the monsters that wish to feast on them. The first issue of this five-issue mini-series will be coming to comic book shops from Action Lab: Danger Zone this March!

Imagine Stephen King’s “IT” but there’s more than one Pennywise and the entire town knows about them. Being hunted is a part of everyday life in Ellicott City; the police force, the hospitals, even the school curriculum are designed to make life comfortable for its citizens while being actively stalked by the eerie, insatiable creatures that live among them. But once a monster chooses its next meal, be it man, woman, or child, it will follow them their entire life until it gets what it wants.

Writer Dillon Gilbertson had this to say about his horrific world: “SWEET HEART comes from a very specific, personal fear that lends a sense of authenticity to the danger.” He goes on to say, “Monsters are everywhere in this world, but there’s always a reason to keep fighting. Often the most frightening part of life is those monsters that cannot be defeated. What’s more is how frightening it can be to see someone you love fight an unwinnable fight while you’re stuck on the sidelines. Sweet Heart isn’t just a metaphorical expression of those fears or anxieties, it’s an attempt at working through them.” To learn more about how Dillon uses his experience with diabetes to build the world of SWEET HEART, you can check out the Newsarama press release.

Action Lab: Danger Zone will be releasing SWEET HEART #1 in March 2020. You can pre-order each cover with Diamond order codes for Cover A (JAN201414) and Cover B (JAN201415).

About The Author

Daniel Gehen
Editor-in-Chief

Dan was introduced to the 1960s Batman show at a young age, which developed into a lifelong passion for comics. When he's not grinding out his day job, he can be found reading about Scarlet Speedsters, Web-Heads, or Sagas just about anywhere. If it's good he'll read it. If it's bad... there's a chance he still might read it.
