The Doctor Who TARDIS Cookie Tin is one of the many TARDIS-shaped merchandise that has made a killing since the show was revived ten years ago. The cookie tin is 10 inches tall, lightweight, and has a solid paint job to replicate its on-screen inspiration. The “doors” of the cookie tin are particularly impressive as they have two small, silver door handles (although they do not open), a notification under the left window that informs readers that it is a “Police Telephone FREE for use of PUBLIC advice & assistance obtainable immediately officer & cars respond to all calls PULL TO OPEN”, and under the right window is printed a St. John Ambulance icon.
Whoever thought out the design of this cookie tin went every step of the way to make an effective imitation. Notable features also include an interior container inside of the tin that is removable as to clean and the light on top of the TARDIS, which works as a button to activate the infamous TARDIS noise. The noise is also activated when the top is lifted back. The container can hold up to about ten standard-size chocolate chip cookies, assuming that standard-size is based off of the packages of cookies bought in-store. This is not the ideal container for a baker, who may bake dozens of cookies.
Buyers beware: the removable, washable interior container is meant for just that. Although the cookie tin is an overall quality product, the noise mechanism alone validates the $40 price tag. Without that quirk, it becomes just another pretty tin. In the event that the tin’s exterior collects dust, it is imperative that it be cleaned with a damp cloth. The mechanism that controls the TARDIS noise button is very fragile and WILL permanently break upon contact with water.
