ďConfederacy of DuncesĒ Part 5
Writer: Garth Ennis
Artist: John McCrea
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Itís the final issue of ďThe PunisherĒ and itís up to Wolverine, Spiderman, and Daredevil to take him down for good.
I hate to be so harsh, but this whole story line was a disgrace. Garth Ennis really did a good job with the first 27 issues of this series with his new take on The Punisher. This last storyline just makes me think that he was bored. I donít think Iím blowing anything by saying that Frank Castle doesnít bite the dust in this issue. I have to wonder what the point of this storyline was. There was no closure to this series at all. Castle makes some kind of semi-profound statement on the last page and Detective Soap finally finds his niche, but nothing is accomplished here. The superheroes donít complete their objective, which isnít a surprise to anyone.
I wish I could say that if the writing wasnít top-notch, then at last the art was satisfactory. Unfortunately, I canít. Thankfully, McCrea wonít be returning when The Punisher goes MAX. Ennis is supposed to unleash his creative juices at long last in the next Punisher series, but itís kind of hard to imagine how that will be any different from the current series. Itís already extremely violent, so Iím not sure what more Ennis can do.
I canít recommend this to anyone. If you like Garth Ennis, read some of his earlier issues because this storyline doesnít measure up. Your $2.99 is better spent on this monthís ďPunisherĒ #1 under Marvel MAX.
