Writers: Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka, Mark Waid
Artists: Keith Giffen (breakdown); Dan Jurgens, Norm Rapmund

Publisher: DC Comics

The Plot Tease: If you ain't a gator, you must be gator bait! Sobek shows that not every gator is a good gator. Animal Man finds new hope. Lady Styxx makes her gruesome return.

The Heroes: Osiris: Poor guy. Never turn your back on your family. Itíll bite ya in the end. Ouch. Yeah, that was a bit harsh. Despite having the wisdom of the gods, Osiris never did see what was right in front of his eyes. Itís unfortunate, because he was a good character. I just hope Isis survives!

Buddy: Wow, what is that all about? I hope we find out more about those guys! Is Animal Man stronger now? It would seem so. Above it all, though, heís still Buddy Baker, family man, and thatís a good thing.

Dan Jurgens: Excellent job. Iím always a fan, but this really shows why a higher tier artist is needed on this title. When I first heard about rotating art teams, this is what I was expecting: top notch guys doing their own take, so that each issue would look unique. I canít fault Dan on the last few pages, either, since heís only drawing what the writers tell him to draw.

The Villains: Lady Styxx: Is the purple lady the same one that was trying to defend her planet a few issues ago? Wow, the writers really donít like her, do they? I canít wait to see Lady Styxx get whatís coming to her.

Sobek: I think it is a bit too obvious by the way heís drawn, even on the first page, that Sobek is going to turn in this issue. Usually heís drawn meek and mild, but here he is drawn ferociously. Does anyone else hear the cheesy sitcom music when Sobek talks about hummus and lamb?

Not much to say here. Itís pretty clear that the graphic depiction of Osirisís death is unneeded. Thatís the main reason Iím giving this issue a low rating. Itís getting old, folks. Use some creativity. Show it in shadow, be a bit more subtle. Youíll still get the needed effect. No need to display such graphic violence just to show that comics arenít for kids anymore.

The Resolution: What is the Rock of Finality?

What will Sobek do now? What will Black Adam do?

Whatís next for Lady Styxx?

Will Buddy get back to his family?

We can only hope that these and other questions will be addressed in the upcoming installments of 52!
