Writers: Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka, Mark Waid
Artists: Keith Giffen (breakdowns); Pat Oliffe (p), Drew Geraci, Rodney Ramos, Pat Oliffe

Publisher: DC Comics

The Plot Tease: Doctor, doctor. Doctor, doctor. Oolong Island has a nasty visitor. Clark Kent defeats Lex Luthor. Atom Smasher looks to rejoin the ranks.

The Heroes: Clark Kent: I guess you donít need super powers to continue to do super things. I guess thereís something about Lexís head that Clark just doesnít like, but whatever the reason, Clark figures out whatís going on. Did anyone else catch the reference to Birthright?

ďIíve known Lex since we were kidsÖĒ

Apparently with Mark Waid on the 52 writing team, he can sneak some of that into continuity.

The JSA: Itís interesting to see the evolution of the team play out here. Alan is deciding both to take a more active hand in Checkmate, as well as to make the JSA more about teaching the next generation of heroes. Iím curious to see how Atom Smasherís story will play out, since heís nowhere to be seen One Year Later, other than in the throwaway line in the latest issue of Justice Society of America regarding how all Atom successors are screw-ups.

The Villains: Where to begin? This issue is packed with villains! (All of whom, when combined, are much more threatening than the Horsemen, and thatís just wrong!)

T.O. Morrow: This guyís awesome, isnít he? The writers have really done an excellent job reworking him into a likeable villain. What will he learn from Reddyís head? Will he put our favorite android back together again?

Black Adam: Do you root for him? Do you root for the Oolong scientists? I think itís a toss up. Based on Adamís storyline, you feel sorry for him, but this issue makes the scientists so entertaining that you want them to succeed as well. I donít think theyíre going to maintain the upper hand for very long, and woe to those still around when he gets free!

Veronica Cale: What is her deal? Sheís apparently lost it, with all the madness going on, but she also seems to know much more than anyone else on the island about whoís behind it all. Itís amazing that Black Adam just rushed right by her without killing her. I guess he has his sights set a bit higher. Where will she go now?

Ira Quimby: Hmmm. I donít remember him looking like that. The islandís done him some good!

Thaddeus Sivana: Wow, no honor amongst Marvel villains, I guess!

Lex Luthor: He just continues to show how vile he is, as well as how clever he is.

Everyman: Iím glad to see that heís not dead. Heís a very interesting character, and can be used in many storylines (as recently seen in Manhunter).

The Resolution: Will Reddy get fixed?

Whatís next for Veronica Cale?

What will happen to Black Adam?

We can only hope that these and other questions will be addressed in the upcoming installments of 52!
