Tapas Media Launches COVID/InThisTogether For Comic Creators

Daniel Gehen

News, Press Release

Digital comics platform Tapas has launched a campaign to help out indie creators by waiving fees for the foreseeable future. Given how everyone is dealing with personal struggles during this trying time, this is another a great gesture from within the comics community. For full information, check out the press release below, and head over to Tapas for some bite-sized stories.

TAPAS MEDIA SETS LONG-TERM SUPPORT FOR ITS INDEPENDENT DIGITAL COMIC BOOK CREATORS, ARTISTS & WRITERS

San Francisco, CA – May 13, 2020 – Today, Tapas Media (https://tapas.io/) announced that it has launched a new initiative in follow-up to its #InThisTogether month-long campaign. The benefit promotion in April saw Tapas fans fundraise and the company waive its fees to provide 100% net revenue to the platform’s creators, artists and writers during this difficult time.

Inspired by the creator and reader response, Tapas Media has decided to rally beyond April and will be waiving all Publishing Support Fees (typically 15%) indefinitely starting from this month in May. The goal is to continue to financially uplift its creative community, which recently surpassed the 50,000+ independent creator milestone as well.  A couple of creators shared their thoughts:

KR Williams, creator of the incredibly popular The Accidental Prince said: “I’ve always felt that Tapas has a fantastic community – both staff and creators really work together on this platform. The last few months have been hard for everyone, but it’s been made easier by InThisTogether and the Tapas staff supporting creators in making content to comfort and uplift each other and readers. The community really appreciated it (even going so far as to draw and write thank you messages to the Tapas team!).”

DPS Only!’s creator, Vel, commented “With cons and other big events being cancelled, a lot of artists (like me) are losing a big chunk of their income. This initiative is a good opportunity to show some support for artists during this time! Every bit of ink means a lot to us, and we’re super appreciative of the readers and Tapas for allowing us to keep making stories for others to enjoy.”

DPS Only! is a brand new digital comic book spanning 30 episodes that has just launched on Tapas Media! The series follows the story of a young female gamer who dons a disguise to avoid the challenges of being a female gamer. She enters the esports scene under the moniker, “Aegis”, in order to compete on the global stage against the best players in esports (including her brother).

It is one of many new releases on the platform, that spans over 2.7 Million Monthly Readers and 70,000+ webcomics and novels on its web and mobile platforms.  Recently, Tapas has also teamed up with other leading publishers to co-produce or distribute works from Vault Comics, BOOM!, Hachette Book Group and Ten Speed Press (Penguin Random House).
