Adventure Time With Fionna And Cake Card Wars #2 (Of 6)(Cover A Jen Wang), $3.99

Adventure Time With Fionna And Cake Card Wars #2 (Of 6)(Cover B Nichole Hamilton), $3.99

Adventure Time With Fionna And Cake Card Wars #2 (Of 6)(Cover C Maya Kern), AR

“Lumpy Space Prince decides to train Cake to beat the Floop Master in the upcoming Card Wars tournament!” This is the description of this book on the Boom! website and it just strikes me something fierce how ridiculous and lovely this is. The fact that we have a book with a character named Lumpy Space Prince and another named Floop Master that is extremely successful is surely a sign that we are living in a glorious time full of glorious comics.

the fiction

Fiction #3 (Of 4)(Cover A David Rubin), $3.99

Issue two of The Fiction was sooo good. The first one was intriguing, but the second was extra cool and really felt like the story was taking off. While I was getting major Magic Tree House vibes from the first issue, the second was much darker and more unique. I haven’t yet had a chance to read more than a couple of pages of the third issue, but I can already tell it too is going to be a delightful and mysterious read.

Giant Days #6 (Of 12)(Cover A Lissa Treiman), $3.99

I am so in love with Giant Days, it’s ridiculous. This series just cannot stop being awesome! I love that every issue kind of acts as its own contained story, yet there are threads of a deeper plot that run through the whole series. The characters are so smart and different and wonderful and the humor is just perfectly off the beaten path.

Gunnerkrigg Court Volume 5 Refine HC, $26.99

Gunnerkrigg Court is such a great comic!!! It has robots! And ghosts who don’t know how to ghost! And a world full of technology pitted against a forest run by the incredibly charismatic Coyote! It also has a hella Hogwarts vibe! And a demon trapped in the body of a stuffed animal! Basically, it’s the greatest!

Last Broadcast Volume 1 HC, $29.99

Oo this actually sounds really interesting! It’s about urban exploration. I have a friend who is quite the urban explorer and he has some of the best stories I’ve ever hear so I can imagine a graphic novel on the subject will be fantastic!

Oh Killstrike #4 (Of 4)(Cover A Logan Faerber), $3.99

It’s the final issue! And of course, in a book like this, that means a final showdown!!

power up

Power Up #2 (Of 6)(Cover A Matt Cummings), $3.99

I’m still a little bit on the fence about this series although I totally want to love it. I really like a lot of the art and the style of storytelling is fun, but both issues so far have fallen a little bit flat. However, there is a goldfish that transforms into a laser whale, which is incredibly awesome. I’m hoping that the series will continue to grow and build on the good parts that it has going for it to create something truly fantastic!

Welcome Back #1 (Cover A Jonathan Brandon Sawyer), $3.99

Welcome Back #1 (Cover B James Harvey), $3.99

Welcome Back #1 (Cover C Rob Guillory), AR

Welcome Back #1 (Cover D Elsa Charretier), AR
Another book that I really want to like, but I’m not so sure about yet! There was a lot going on in this first issue. I kind of wish that it had taken the idea of the main girl being the daughter of a serial killer and just focused on that. Enough interesting things were happening in that storyline and when the main plot was brought in, I actually got a bit disappointed because it felt like a distraction from the intriguing intricacies of this girl’s life.
