Tillie Walden’s new graphic novel Spinning was the buzz book at this year’s SPX. In its direct honesty, novelistic approach and smartly designed artwork, the book is a fully realized vision from an exciting new creator.
I had a chance to interview Tillie at SPX about Spinning, creativity and aspirations. I found her to be a surprising and insightful interviewee, with intriguing ideas around authorial intent, the vagaries of memory and the paradox of being private while presenting yourself openly in a memoir.
Usually I like to present interviews in print form, but the back and forth with Tillie is more interesting to listen to, I think. Download the mp3 here.
