This Week in Boom! for 1/28/15

This Week in BOOM!

Abigail And The Snowman #2 (Of 4)(Cover A Roger Landridge), $3.99

I could tell you how delightful the first issue of this series was, but my compatriots at CB did it much better in a Slugfest Review, giving it 4.5 (out of 5) stars.

Adventure Time #36 (Cover A Justin Hillgrove), $3.99
Adventure Time #36 (Cover B Ale Giorini), $3.99
Adventure Time #36 (Cover C Rebekka Dunlap), AR
Amazing World Of Gumball 2015 Special #1 (Cover A Matt Cummings), $4.99
Amazing World Of Gumball 2015 Special #1 (Cover B Jemma Salume), $4.99
Amazing World Of Gumball 2015 Special #1 (Cover C Missy Pena), AR

You know, just last week I said I was going to get caught up on Gumball in time for the next issue and then they toss a curveball my way.  I stand by my goal of getting acclimated by the next regular issue.

Big Trouble In Little China #8 (Cover A Eric Powell), $3.99
Big Trouble In Little China #8 (Cover B Alexis Ziritt), $3.99
Big Trouble In Little China #8 (Cover C Chuck BB), AR

Kurt Russel ends up in a lot of comics.

Clive Barker’s Nightbreed #9 (Cover A Riley Rossmo), $3.99

The latest entry into the Barker-verse with a cover by the always great Riley Rossmo.

EE10Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes #3 (Of 6)(Cover A Christopher Mitten), $3.99
Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes #3 (Of 6)(Cover B Downfall Of Man), AR

I was not a fan of this movie.  I liked “Rise” well enough, but this one felt contrived, trapped in the requirements of a Hollywood action movie.  So I would imagine the comic book is better, as it’s not beholden to any studio system producing it.

Evil Empire #10 (Cover A Jay Shaw), $3.99

I’ve enjoyed this series, but the last few issues have started to taper off in quality.  I think the story has grown beyond the creative teams means to tell it.  It worked much better as a smaller story with glimpses of a larger world, whereas recently it’s been the opposite.  I hope it’s able to get back to that.

Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal Creation Myths Volume 1 TP, $14.99

The Dark Crystal scared the bejeezus out of me as a kid.  That is all.

Munchkin #1 (Cover A Ian McGinty), $3.99
Munchkin #1 (Cover B Tyler Jenkins), $3.99
Munchkin #1 (Cover C Evan Palmer), $3.99
Munchkin #1 (Cover C Shelli Paroline & Braden Lamb), AR
Munchkin #1 (Cover D John Kovalic), AR

This is a game?  A card game?  About dungeons?  I’m so out of the loop.  But I’m a big fan of something as nerdy as a card game about dungeons and this looks like a great book for nerdy kids.

Revelations TP, $19.99

I’m not really a fan of Humberto Ramos’ art, but it looks pretty great in this book.  He changes his style just enough to work for a non-superhero, supernatural thriller, but it’s still recognizable as his.

Sleepy Hollow #4 (Of 4)(Cover A Phil Noto), $3.99
Sleepy Hollow #4 (Of 4)(Cover B Robert Sammelin), AR

The finale!  I do believe there’s more of this coming in the future.
