What Looks Good For the Week of November 6th, 2019

Columns, What Looks Good

Halloween has come and gone, and for some sick bastards that means it’s time for two straight months of Christmas music. Thankfully, the weekly release of new comics can keep us sane from the blaring of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas is You” for the 300th time. And with the volume of stuff to check out this week, you’ll put off starting your holiday shopping for at least a little while.

Amazing Spider-Man #33 (Marvel)

(w) Nick Spencer (a) Patrick Gleason (c) Matthew Wilson

Miguel O’Hara’s mysterious return to the present threatens his life and his entire future. But why?

As for OUR time’s Spider-Man, he’s got his hands full with classic villains, family problems and international incidents that intertwine in terrifying ways!

BATMAN UNIVERSE #5 (OF 6)Batman Universe #5 (DC Comics)

(w) Brian Michael Bendis (a) Nick Derington (c) Dave Stewart

Available to comics shops for the first time! After being gunned down in Crime Alley by Vandal Savage, Batman is mysteriously saved by the power source in the Faberge? egg Savage has stolen! That power turns out to be a White Lantern ring—and when Batman uses it to defeat Savage, its energy signature calls the entire Green Lantern Corps to Earth…and they are not happy! Originally published in Batman Giant #11 and #12.

B.B. Free #1 (BOOM! Studios)

(w) Gabby Rivera (a) Royal Dunlap

B.B. Free broadcasts her underground radio show from her remote swamp community, and she has no idea she’s actually the chosen one. It’s been over a hundred years since the Plague That Ate Greed wiped out half the population, and it’s the only world that B.B. Free has ever known. But when B.B. rebels against her overbearing father, she realizes that

everything she believes in could be a lie. On the run from her own family, B.B. will learn the truth about the world she lives in, and about the power she never knew she had. Writer Gabby Rivera and debuting artist Royal Dunlap present an adventure for fans of Blackbird and “mysterious destiny” heroic fiction like Naomi about finding your family when the whole world is against you.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #9 (BOOM! Studios)

(w) Jordie Bellaire (a) David Lopez (c) Raul Angulo

A HELLMOUTH TIE-IN! It’s up to the All-New Scooby Gang of Cordelia, Willow and Xander to save Sunnydale. There’s just one problem-the Hellmouth is spreading evil all over Sunnydale, putting everyone under its thrall. As the inhabitants of Sunnydale turn on one another, will the Scooby Gang be enough?

Coffin Bound #4 (Image Comics)

(w) Dan Watters (a) Dani (c) Brad Simpson

Death! Ashes! The finale of our first story arc! Without hope, friends, or allies, Izzy faces her past and the end of her world.

Crone #1 (Dark Horse)

(w) Dennis Culver (a) Justin Greenwood (c) Brad Simpson (l) Pat Brosseau

The Sword Saviour and Champion of Men once known as BLOODY BLISS is now nothing more than a reclusive old CRONE. Does she have the strength to answer the call for one last adventure? Only Dennis Culver (Burnouts, E is for Extinction) and Justin Greenwood (Stumptown, The Last Siege) know for sure in this story that is equal parts Unforgiven and Xena: Warrior Princess.

From Burnouts creator Dennis Culver and acclaimed artist Justin Greenwood!

One more battle for Bloody Bliss!

Green Lantern Blackstars #1 (DC Comics)

(w) Grant Morrison (a) Xermanico

Who are the Blackstars? What are they? Answers will be revealed as the unstoppable Blackstars set their sights on the demons of Ysmault, Mongul…and a tiny, backwater planet called Earth. Paving the way for more exciting Green Lantern adventures in 2020, a dangerous new chapter of the Green Lantern mythology starts on November 6th.

Following the catastrophic events of The Green Lantern #12 by Grant Morrison and Liam Sharp, scheduled to hit shelves October 2nd, 2019, no Green Lanterns can be found patrolling their space sectors…not a single power ring lights the darkness! What happens in the finale of Morrison and Sharp’s incredible year-long run is shrouded in mystery, but the Green Lantern Corps is no more! Scratch that—they never existed in the first place. What has Hal Jordan done?

New Mutants (2019-) #1Legion of Super-Heroes #1 (DC Comics)

(w) Brian Michael Bendis (a) Ryan Sook (i) Ryan Sook, Wade von Grawbadger (c) Jordie Bellaire

Welcome to the 31st century! Inspired by the acts of and lessons learned from the greatest heroes of all time, the Legion of Super-Heroes have gathered together to stop a galaxy from repeating its past mistakes. The greatest lineup of heroes in comic book history returns with new, fresh, and reader-friendly stories!

Eisner Award-winning writer Brian Michael Bendis reteams with master artist Ryan Sook (Action Comics) for one of the most ambitious mainstream comic books ever created! Why have the Legion of Super-Heroes broken the cardinal rule of the United Planets and inducted Jon Kent, a.k.a. Superboy, into the Legion? What are they hiding? And what does it have to do with Aquaman’s long-lost trident?

New Mutants #1 (Marvel)

(w) Jonathan Hickman, Ed Brisson (a) Rod Reis

The classic New Mutants (Sunspot, Wolfsbane, Mirage, Karma, Magik, and Cypher) get together with a few new friends (Chamber, Mondo) to seek out their missing member and share the good news… a mission that takes them into space alongside the Starjammers!

Undiscovered Country #1 (Image Comics)

(w) Scott Snyder, Charles Soule (a) Giuseppe Camuncoli, Daniele Orlandini (c) Matthew Wilson

In this special oversized first issue, readers will journey into the near future, and an unknown nation that was once the United States of America-a land that’s become shrouded in mystery after walling itself off from the rest of the world without explanation over thirty years ago. When a team seeking a cure for a global pandemic breaches U.S. borders, they quickly find themselves in a struggle to survive this strange and deadly lost continent!

Wonder Twins #9 (DC Comics)

(w) Mark Russell (a) Stephen Byrne

Don’t miss the stunning secret of the Wonder Twins that will change how you look at them forever! Tensions run high as Jayna takes in friend-turned-fugitive Polly Math and opens up about her family’s painful past on Exxor, but they are soon interrupted when Batman and Superman call on Zan and Jayna for an all-star team-up against a rogue army! Jayna must balance their duties to the Justice League with her responsibilities as a friend…each of which is proving quite detrimental to the other!

About The Author

Daniel Gehen, Jason Jeffords Jr.
Editor-in-Chief

Dan was introduced to the 1960s Batman show at a young age, which developed into a lifelong passion for comics. When he's not grinding out his day job, he can be found reading about Scarlet Speedsters, Web-Heads, or Sagas just about anywhere. If it's good he'll read it. If it's bad... there's a chance he still might read it.
