5 Amazing New Horror Comics to Read in 2025

In this list, we’ll walk you through five brilliant, yet terrifying, new horror comics that have been released this year.

There’s been more than a few impressive horror comics released so far this year. Whether you’re looking for slashers, phychological horror, whimsical horror, or chilling tales based on true stories, we have something for you.

Below, you can find 5 of our favourites, in no particular order!

Exquisite Corpses

Published by Image Comics, Exquisite Corpses is undoubtedly one of the standout horror comics of 2025. Dubbed the comic event of the year, Exquisite Corpses is written by acclaimed comics scribe James Tynion IV, alongside a number of incredibly talented artists.

The series is a unique twist on The Purge and Squid Game, in which a group of wealthy American families are pitted against each other in a gruesome fight to the death. Check out the official synopsis:

Every five years on Halloween, the wealthiest families in America play a game. In Exquisite Corpses, 12 of the deadliest people in the world are dropped into a small town with just one goal: last killer standing wins. For the citizens of Oak Valley, Maine—this year’s unlucky arena—the goal is much simpler. They must survive the night.

Exquisite Corpses has proven an enormous success so far, being rushed back to print at Image due to high demand. We enjoyed it, too. Check out our review here.

The Seasons

Sticking with Image Comics, The Seasons is created by Rick Remender (Deadly Class. Black Science) & Paul Azaceta (Outcast).  Featuring plenty of whimsical horror, this series is undeniable a unique commodity.

Check out the official synopsis:

Summer, Winter, Spring and Autumn are the Seasons Sisters, the daughters of the world-renowned Seasons Detectives. Ten years ago, their famous parents disappeared. Left to raise themselves, the sisters formed an unbreakable bond. Now that bond is tested as the sisters fall prey to sinister forces. The youngest sister, Spring, is the last hope of saving them from a fate worse than death. Will Spring be able to piece her shattered family back together before it’s too late for them all?

The Seasons has garnered attention from some of the biggest names in comics, with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman deeming it “a comic that will make you remember why you fell in love with comics in the first place.”

Our Brilliant Ruin: Horror at Crane Mansion

If you love Lovecraftian horror, look no further. Published by Dark Horse Comics and written by Cullen Bunn with art from Christopher Mitten, this 3-issue series is an Edwardian twist on Lovecraftian horror.

The synopsis reads:

Our Brilliant Ruin depicts a world where intricate social ties of allegiance and conflict are tested by the presence of the Ruin—a malignant force that corrodes the world and turns people into horrific creatures. In “Horror at Crane Mansion,” an investigator for hire finds herself in deep when a simple job vetting a wealthy woman’s suitors becomes a death trap. Who is a tragic victim, and who is the ruthless hunter?

Buried Long, Long Ago

From acclaimed writer Anthony Cleveland (Charred Remains) and Bram Stoker Award-nominated artist Alex Cormack (Road of Bones), comes ‘Buried Long, Long Ago’ — a chilling, historical horror. But what makes this one extra scary is that it’s based on true events.

This comic covers the story of Belle Gunness, who was born in the mid-1800s, spending most of her life between Illinois and Indiana. Over her lifetime, she was responsible for murdering upwards of 40 people. She would lure lonely men to her farm, where she would savagely kill them and take their money. During her lifetime, Belle managed to avoid trial, and so much of the story has been left largely uncovered.

Writer Anthony Cleveland delivers an extremely chilling and disturbing take on the true story — and the art from Cormack is breathtaking. To learn more, check out our review.

Night of the Slashers

From New York Times bestselling writer Cavan Scott (Union Jack the Ripper) and artist Paul Fry (Spider-Man 2099), comes blood-soaked slasher Night of the Slashers. This comic was pleasantly surprising. Sure, it carries plenty of genre cliches, but it’s just so good… and incredibly brutal. Check out the synopsis:

Hill Creek is a lovely place to visit… except the one night of the year its citizens transform into bloodthirsty maniacs! Of course, that’s the very night Lara’s bus breaks down, stranding the disillusioned teen and her classmates in the secluded town. Secrets uncovered, terror at every turn―will anyone survive the night?

Night of the Slashers is published by Magma Comix.
