Indie Comics Spotlight, August 2025

Welcome back to our monthly indie comics spotlight, where we share some of the brightest new and upcoming creators in the comics medium! 

Last month, we shared a number of excellent creators, with comics covering a range of genres, from action and fantasy, to romance and sci-fi. This August, we’ve got another exciting slate of projects for you to check out. Each description is written by the creators themselves. Let’s take a tour.


Merauder: The Rogue Wave Pirates by Web Bleynat, Alex Dawe, and David Velasquez

When former teen rebel Marina Nazorio joins the navy, it seems that she is ready to settle in for a life of discipline and resposibility. After her ship is betrayed by an admiral and her crew is captured by the lost city of Atlantis, it’s time for her to rebel once again as a pirate!

Return of the Rooftop Koreans by T.Y. Lee

Return of the Rooftop Koreans is an upcoming 140+ page, full-color graphic novel about a new generation of Rooftop Koreans who take up arms to protect their community in the face of chaos and injustice.

Amidst the chaos of the 1992 Los Angeles Riots, gangs and criminals looted businesses and set large parts of the city ablaze. Many Korean American business owners took up arms and stationed themselves on the rooftops of their stores. These brave men came to be known as The Rooftop Koreans.

Decades later, the city of LA finds itself plunged into another nightmare. A new generation of Rooftop Koreans emerges to defend their community in this action packed graphic novel.

Pencils Down by Justin Belmont

A lazy comic book artist at the Big Two faces the shock of being fired, igniting a desire for revenge against those who betrayed him. Desperate and frustrated, he turns to an old Ouija board, hoping to summon a demon to carry out his vengeance. Instead, he inadvertently brings to life his #2 pencil.

The Fall of the Godz

Katsu-O City is torn apart by fear and turmoil. The relentless Harai, superpowered gods, and the brutal AKIRA crime syndicate hold the city in their iron grip. But in the darkest hour, a new force emerges—the Oni.
