We might be moving into a new year chock full of DC content, but don’t expect DC Studios’ The Brave and the Bold to come anytime soon. The project reportedly won’t begin filming until 2027.
DC is riding high on all fronts right now. On the comic side of things, the titan publisher has had a year to remember, thanks to bold and innovative storytelling. Of course, on our screens, both James Gunn and Peter Safran have ushered in a revitalised franchise of their own. It all began with Superman, starring David Corenswet in the titular role, and it’ll continue with Milly Alcock’s Supergirl in 2026.
There’s a number of other projects in the works, too. One of which is The Brave and the Bold — a movie that promises to bring together the Dark Knight and Robin in live-action for the first time since 1997. Back then, it was Batman & Robin starring George Clooney… and it was so bad it killed the franchise. The DC Studios universe hopes to do things a little differently, hopefully for the better. In fairness, it can’t get much worse.
The Brave and the Bold is still in early days of development. The Flash‘s Andy Muschietti is reportedly set to direct (although this is yet to be confirmed). The film’s Robin will be Damian Wayne, the son of Bruce Wayne. Beyond this, further details are scarce to say the least. However, a recent post from Nexus Point News’ Apocalyptic Horseman suggests that the team at DC Studios plans to film the project in 2027. A release date would likely occur around late 2028. “They hope to shoot BATB in 2027 but that all comes down to them nailing the script down and they’ve already switched writers so we’ll see,” they wrote.
Most recently, Gunn himself explained that scripts are being worked on, but offered no further elaboration. “There’s really no new updates. I mean, we’re working on a script. We have a screenwriter who’s hammering away at it. I’m very involved, and so, you know, we’ll see what happens next. I wish I had more news for you, but I don’t.”
