Former The Walking Dead star Emily Kinney is returning as Beth Greene in Dead City season 3 for a flashback sequence.
AMC’s The Walking Dead has seen so many characters come and go over the years. The show is right up there with Game of Thrones in terms of killing off key and popular characters. Some deaths throughout the show, notably Carl and Glenn, have been met with immense controversy, whether that’s from sheer brutality, divisive plot reasons, or a mix of both.
One character who entered the show early was Beth, played my Emily Kinney. The youngest daughter of Hershel Greene and half-sister of Maggie Greene, Beth was introduced into the show way back in season 2. She brought humanity to the group, both through her music and compassion. She would also grow close to Daryl (Norman Reedus), bringing out sides to him that he’d rarely show in front of other characters. Beth ultimately died in season 5 during the hospital storyline. It was a sudden and shocking death, and is remembered as one of the most emotional moments in the show’s long history.
Despite the death of her character many years prior, Emily Kinney is returning to the AMC franchise for The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3. This news has been confirmed by behind-the-scenes images, which features both Lauren Cohan and Kinney in what appears to be a flashback sequence. Her return will no doubt be a poignant moment. We currently do not know what the flashback sequence will entail. However, images shared on X show both Cohan and Kinney dressed in winter clothes in Central Park, New York City. Naturally, Beth has a guitar on her.
Beth’s death in the main show was a sudden tragedy, and it’s stuck with Maggie throughout her journey. Revisiting it all these years later allows the show to give closure to the characters, but also to viewers. No doubt fans will celebrate the flashback; they already are. “Wow! That will be fun to see. It makes me actually look forward to seeing Dead City,” one fan wrote. Another commented: “I’m going to freak out” Get those tissues ready, folks.
The Walking Dead: Dead City is expected to return for its third season later this year. Before that, we’ll first see the fourth and final season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Which spinoff are you most excited to return to? Tell us in the comments down below!
