Assorted Crisis Events #8, which is already one of the most celebrated comics of 2026, is coming back for another round of printing in its newsprint edition.
From wrier Deniz Camp and illustrator Eric Zawadzki, Assorted Crisis Events is an anthology series that brings out the very best of the comics medium. We’ve rhapsodised about it at length — the series was even our #1 comic series of 2025. In short, it’s a sci-fi anthology series, where each story takes place in the midst of a unique crisis. It’s daring, pushing the medium to its limit through tales that range from mind-bending adventures, to devastating tales of heartbreak. As heavy sci-fi as the tales get, the human side always strikes at the forefront.
If you want to learn more about the series, and check out our reviews, our full Assorted Crisis Events archives can be found here. But right now, our focus is on the incredibly exciting news that Issue #8, which was printed in a unique newsprint edition (the style of paper famously used for printing newspapers), is officially returning to print from Image Comics. This comes after huge demand.
“What an amazing thing, to sell out of an issue so quickly! That’s rare for an issue #8 of a series, and I am so grateful to everyone who picked up the book or spoke about it or both! Never in my career have I experienced anything like the response we’ve been getting to this book,” Camp said in a statement. “Everyone is pouring their hearts out here. It means so much to us. Thank you!”
Titled Life in the Gutter, the issue follows a struggling comic book artist, who quite literally gets lost within the gutters of his work. It’s highly interactive, inviting the reader to get involved; not in a lazy way, but in a creative and thought -provoking manner. The official synopsis reads: “A homeless comic book artist falls into the gutters – literally! Can Wally find his way back to life and reality, or is he lost in the blank white space between panels forever?”
Of course, you don’t have to pick up the issue in newsprint — it’ll be available in regular print within the next trade paperback edition. However, the newsprint is not a gimmick, it adds to the interactive nature of the book, making it truly an unparalleled reading experience.
Assorted Crisis Events #8 may be enhanced by reading in newsprint, but it’s phenomenal whichever way you consume it. If digital is your thing, pick up a copy here.
