As we approach the end of 2025, we’re taking a look at some of the finest comics that launched this year. In this post, we rhapsodise about Assorted Crisis Events, an anthology series chock full of big concepts, heartbreak, and mind-bending moments, and more.
Writer Deniz Camp has been one of the winning comic book scribes of 2025. From Absolute Martian Manhunter, to Ultimates, to Assorted Crisis Events, he’s been penning big hits on all fronts. We’ve loved and adored all his work, but what he’s crafted with Assorted Crisis Events alongside series artist Eric Zawadzki, is nothing short of extraordinary. Published by Image Comics, the series brings out the best of the medium. It’s daring, pushing the medium to its limit through tales that range from mind-bending adventures, to devastatingly tales of heartbreak. As sci-fi as the tales get — and they do get wild very often — the human side always strikes at the forefront.
In issue #1, Camp introduces readers to a world where time has become so distorted that events and people from the distant past and far future collide — bringing their battles, wars and politics to the modern day. As Doctor Who would put it, it’s chock-full of “wibbly wobbly, timey-wimey” stuff. For instance, World War 3 and World War 4 happen simultaneously. Behind every corner there could be cavemen, medieval knights, cyborg soldiers, and other unlikely entities. Every page will shock you, surprise you, or simply bewilder you. Despite such a monumentally big scale, Camp proves from the first page that regular, normal people are the centre of attention. It follows Ashley, who’s just trying to live a regular life amid all the chaos surrounding her.
The series went on to tell more poignant tales. They’re deeply personal and introspective, never failing to make you see the world another way, burst into tears, or both. For me, Assorted Crisis Events reached its peak with issue #6, a comic that I hailed as “one of the best comics I’ve ever read” in my review. And I stand by that. The story speaks to anyone who’s ever felt alone. To anyone who’s looked after a loved one. To anyone who has lost someone close. It’s about not letting go and holding onto every moment, be it good or bad. Assorted Crisis Events #6 will speak to you personally.

In issue #6, we follow Sasha and John, a married couple. After years of marriage, John gets diagnosed with a rare disease called Retro Anterograde Temporal Diminishment, which causes his form to vacillate between child and octogenarian from one moment to the next. One moment he’s his actual age, but then he can change to a toddler, then to a withering old man, and back to a baby. Sasha stays by his side, caring for him throughout his episodes.
The range of stories in this series is incredible, and the success has seen the series rewarded with reprints and the first 5 issues collected in a glorious TBP edition. This series is a must-read for everyone. There’s been a gluttony of phenomenal comics so far this year, but I’d be tempted to place Assorted Crisis Events right at the summit.
