This Week in BOOM!

Boom! for 04/01/15: Aliens are real.

Kyle Garret
April 1, 2015
This Week in BOOM!

Yes, the theme for this week’s books is “aliens.”  And why not?  Boom’s done some great alien stories lately.  Wild’s End alone was brilliant (I want more!) and Cluster has been great so far.  Time to jump into the great beyond!

Adventure Time Volume 5 Graybles Schmaybles GN, $12.99

Are there aliens in Adventure Time?  There have to be, right?  Or are there nothing BUT aliens?

Cluster #3 (Cover A Damian Couceiro), $3.99
Cluster #3 (Cover B Declan Shalvey), AR

The first two issues of this were great and I can’t recommend it highly enough.  You should be buying it for the art alone, but the execution of the story is beyond it’s somewhat pedestrian elevator pitch.  Yes, it’s criminals on the front lines, but the character work has been phenomenal.Deep State vol 1

Deep State Volume 1 TP, $9.99

It’s always the Russians’ fault.  For just 10 bucks, you have no excuse not to try this excellent series.

Feathers #4 (Of 6)(Cover A Jorge Corona), $3.99

I’m behind on this, but I have a one year old son, so cut me some slack.  The first two issues were great, though.

Garfield #36 (Cover A Andy Hirsch), $3.99
Garfield #36 (Cover B Frazer Irving), AR

There’s got to be a spider in this issue, right?

HaloGen #2 (Of 4)(Cover A Afu Chan), $3.99

The first issue was interesting, although the art wasn’t exactly what I expected.  Not that that’s bad.  It worth a second shot, that’s for sure.Lumberjanes vol 1

Lumberjanes Volume 1 TP, $14.99

Just buy this already, you heathen.

Palmiotti And Brady’s The Big Con Job #2 (Of 4)(Cover A Amanda Conner), $3.99

I really liked the idea behind this, but the, um, endowments on the female lead are a bit distracting.  I realize that’s supposed to be part of the joke, but I don’t know that it’s really all that funny.

UFOlogy #1 (Of 6)(Cover A Matt Fox), $3.99
UFOlogy #1 (Of 6)(Cover B Alison Sampson), $3.99
UFOlogy #1 (Of 6)(Cover C Frazer Irving), AR
UFOlogy #1 (Of 6)(Cover D Paul Mayberry), AR

See?  Aliens are real!  As I am a sucker for both stories about Midwestern towns and women, I will be getting this.

Woods #12 (Cover A Michael Dialynas), $3.99

This series seems to be cruising right along.  While I wasn’t a fan of the first two issues, I’m happy it’s finding some success.
