Brian K. Vaughan’s ‘We Stand on Guard’ Surges In Sales – A Must-Read Graphic Novel!

Image Comics has revealed that Brian K. Vaughan’s 2015 comic We Stand on Guard has seen a huge surge in sales amid current affairs surrounding the United States-Canada trade relations.

Who could’ve predicted that a comic from a decade ago could already become one of the hottest properties of 2025? Well that’s exactly what’s happened with ‘We Stand on Guard,’ a classic series from Brian K. Vaughan (Paper Girls, Y: The Last Man) and Steve Skroce (Doc Frankenstein).

Image Comics recently revealed that the limited edition deluxe hardcover of We Stand on Guard is closing in on a total sell-out. Copies are flying off the shelves at record speed, which is pretty unprecedented for a 10-year old comic. We Stand on Guard is a completed story, told in 6 issues. The story takes place in a dystopian future where a ragtag band of Canadian civilians-turned-freedom-fighters defend their homeland against the omnipotent, super-advanced United States. Yes, in this future, the U.S. harnesses the power of super-robots.

The recent immense surge in sales feels very timely, given the recent political tensions between Canada and the United States. While Image has not released specific numbers, the surge in popularity has meant that the trade edition of We Stand on Guard has sold more copies in one week of 2025 than the entirety of 2024. Yikes!

“Many of my proudest collaborations have been with Canadian creators, and it was a particular thrill to finally work with legendary artist Steve Skroce,” Brian K. Vaughan said in a statement. “So I’m grateful that readers have been revisiting our nightmarish war story, which we hope remains fiction.”

It’s time to read We Stand on Guard if you haven’t already!

It’s lovely to see a decade-old comic get some love in the modern day. Even if it is because it’s become relevant again due to political issues. We Stand on Guard, a brilliantly written and complete story, deserves a place in every reader’s collection. Among Vaughan’s esteemed works, from Y: The Last Man to Saga, it’s satisfying to see We Stand on Guard finally receiving the recognition it deserves.

Unsurprisingly, at the time of writing, the hardcover edition is currently out of stock on Amazon. However, you can pick up the paperback or Kindle editions here.
