In the new season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, our protagonists Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) head to Spain. When they enter a new community, Carol meets Antonio (Eduardo Noriega), whom she builds a “very compelling” relationship with.
After spending two seasons in France (with a little trip to Iceland along the way), The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon continues its journey in sunny Spain. The new season takes full advantage of the wide and open Spanish landscape, offering up spaghetti western vibes, while also introducing some interesting new dynamics. For instance, after arriving in a new community, Carol meets Antonio (Eduardo Noriega), and the two develop a close bond and warm relationship.
“Once they get to Spain, they encounter these people living in a village,” McBride teased in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. “As Carol heals up, they have a thing in common. We’ll see what these common denominators are between these two. They also have a path that’s very similar, although I think they’re teaching each other things. They’re learning from one another.”
In addition, showrunner David Zabel also weighed in on Carol’s journey. “Carol and Antonio have this very compelling relationship as they get to know each other,” he said. “They get to know each other gradually, but as they do, there’s a real warmth between them and there’s an understanding between them because of where he’s coming from in his life and where she’s been in her life.”

The season doesn’t rush into a relationship between them. It simmers as the story unfolds. “She’s very committed to helping him and helping his family and the situation that Daryl and Carol find in this town,” he explained. “And so, over time, the intimacy grows and there’s an openness.”
Zabel adds that “there is the possibility of romance” between Carol and Antonio.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 3 premieres September 7 on AMC.
