By now you have heard Disney have fired James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, about some tweets he made between 2008-2012. Some big names came out to support James but to no avail. There was an online petition to get Disney to hire him back.

In July 30, 2018 the cast of GOTG released a joint statement in support of him. Disney also took a courtesy meeting with James and his agent. However Disney was staying firm on their decision. Couple days later, Disney said to put the 3rd GOTG on hold, telling all the pre-production workers to find another job.

Chris Pratt while being interviewed for LEGO movie said Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 was going to happen.

“I promise there willl be a third movie, I don’t know exactly what that’s going to look like, but I know everyone on board is just eager to give the fans what they want and wrap up a trilogy in a meaningful way.  We’re still circling the City of Jericho, I’d like to say.”

What a surprise turn of events on Friday, March 15 2019. Disney rehired James Gunn to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Could it be that Disney couldn’t find anyone to direct that movie? Also could it be  GOTG franchise was making a lot of money for Disney.

This team of comic book characters made their first appearance as a team  in Annihilation Conquest #6 (April 2008) published by Marvel Comics. The next month, they appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy  #1 (May 2008) published by Marvel Comics. Most collectors considered the Guardians of the Galaxy  #1 (May 2008) to be the more valuable of the two comic books.

Let’s see how Guardians of the Galaxy  #1 (May 2008) is doing in the aftermath of James Gunn’s firing. He was fired on July 20, 2018 . I was just going to look at books graded 9.8.

There was one CGC 9.8 sold for $179.27 on August 12 2018.

There was one CGC 9.8 sold for $114.08 on December 16, 2018. Price drop due to Christmas?  No books sold in January 2019.

After the announcement of hiring James Gunn on March 15, 2019. There was one Guardians of the Galaxy 1 CGC 9.8 sold for $125 on March 16 2019.

There was one  Guardians of the Galaxy 1 CGC 9.8 sold for $150 on May 8, 2019.

Early April 2021, James Gunn stated the movie will start filming later this year.

Prices has soared for this book because one sold for $599 on March 26 and two ($560 and $575)  sold on March 30

This ragtag team has shown up in two GOTG movies and 2 Avengers movies. For them being in another GOTG movie, I don’t think it will impact the the value of this issue. We saw them 4 times already. Lol.
