Colman Domingo is interested in entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a villain. However, he wants his villain to be inherently different from most others — fans need to sympathise with his villain.
So far in his illustrious career, Colman Domingo has already had a small role in the MCU. He voiced Norman Osborn in Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man, and he’s expected to return for season 2. Despite this, he’s set his sights on a larger role in the franchise. The two-time Oscar nominee is keen to step back into the Marvel Universe as a villain — but one that’ll make audiences “pull a tear”.
Of course, Domingo is no stranger to portraying villains. Perhaps his most famous villainous character is Victor Strand in Fear the Walking Dead, who he played for over 100 episodes. “I think I’m meant to play a villain,” the actor told The Direct in a recent interview. “I don’t know why — and I think I’m such a lovable person — but I find it’s more interesting to play a villain. I think it’s more complex. I think the idea of getting the audience to pull a tear on a villain is interesting to me.”
He was previously linked with playing Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it never came to be. One of the big conditions he has for joining the MCU in live-action would be a case of playing someone multi-faceted; he wants to “tap into their humanity.”
“Because for me, it’s like, ‘Oh, then I can tap into their humanity.’ And you find out why they’re broken, or why they’re hurting people, or why they feel like they want to be empowered and put their foot on someone’s neck. So, I think that’s more complicated, more interesting than just a heroic dude, just a hero. I mean, I don’t know, I feel like… Let’s make it happen. Let’s do it.”
All of this begs the question: who could Colman Domingo play in the MCU? The most obvious answer would see him bring his version of Norman Osborn into live-action. We’re taking suggestions– leave your choice in the comments down below!
