DC has just announced an audio dramatisation of Batman: The Killing Joke during the Jim Lee and Friends panel at New York City Comic-Con!
Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s one shot graphic novel Batman: The Killing Joke is a titan of the comics world. The work has been cited as one of the very best DC comics ever told. It was previously adapted into an animated movie back in 2016 with Mark Hamill voicing The Joker. The had a mixed reception, to say the least.
Now, during the Jim Lee and Friends panel at New York City Comic-Con, DC has announced a Killing Joke audio drama. What’s more, the project will see legendary voice actor Troy Baker return to voice Joker. Of course, Baker has an esteemed history of voicing the Clown Prince of Crime, from projects such as the Arkham Origins video game and the 2021 animated adaptation of Batman: The Long Halloween.
More recently, Troy Baker voiced Ozymandias in the animated Watchmen adaptation. In The Killing Joke, he’s once again tackling an Alan Moore project. Details are currently scarce on the upcoming adaptation of The Killing Joke, but we know that it’s officially in the works with Baker reprising his iconic role
If you’re for some reason unfamiliar with The Killing Joke, the graphic novel dates back to 1988. Written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Brian Bolland, the story takes place after Joker escapes from Arkham Asylum and sets out to prove that ‘one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy’. To prove his point, he shoots batgirl and captures Commissioner Gordon, subjecting him to immense psychological torture.
Since its publication, Batman: The Killing Joke has gone on to become one of the most important and influential graphic novels in history. Are you interested to see it return as an audio drama? Tell us in the comments down below!
