Kyle Higgins and Dan Mora announced new Elseworld project Immortal Legend Batman at C2E2, blending superhero storytelling with Japanese tokusatsu.

In 2024, DC Comics revitalised its Elseworlds imprint, offering up a ton of amazing out-of-continuity stories. Some of the most popular include Batman the Barbarian, Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age, DC vs. Vampires: World War V, and Green Lantern: Dark. Up next is futuristic series Immortal Legend Batman, which blends together the Batman mythos with rich galactic civilisation world-building — all based on Japanese tokusatsu.

Immortal Legend Batman is created by the superstar team of: Kyle Higgins (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Mat Groom (Ultraman, Inferno Girl Red), Dan Mora (Justice League Unlimited), Erica D’Urso (Captain Marvel, Inferno Girl Red), colorist Igor Monti, and letterer Becca Carey. Fans can expect an entirely new look for the caped crusader, as well as an array of exciting new gadgets ranging from mech suits to dark matter-infused powers.

“Certain projects are the perfect storm of timing, idea and creative team,” Higgins said in a statement. “Immortal Legend Batman has been years in the making, dating back to stunning designs that Mat and I first saw from Dan Mora. Obviously, we have a love and appreciation for Tokusatsu, and its influence on our books like Radiant Black and Inferno Girl Red. The opportunity to bring that love to a very unique version of Gotham, with very unique versions of these characters, with Mat, Erica, Igor, and Becca, along with our editor Matt Levine, who we worked with on Power Rangers, makes this beyond a perfect storm.”

Groom added: “Batman is fiction’s greatest hero, and we wanted to find a way to take everything that’s so great about him—his immense determination, resilience and selflessness—and explore it in a totally new way. So, we’re taking Batman to the stars, turning him into a wandering hero, exploring humanity’s final frontier… and searching out deadly threats he inadvertently released upon the galactic community.”

The six-issue series launches on August 276h, 2025. Will you be picking it up? Tell us in the comments down below! In the meantime, consider subscribing to our free, weekly newsletter for more geeky updates.
