DC Comics announces ‘NEW HISTORY OF THE DC UNIVERSE‘

Mark Waid’s self-confessed ‘dream project,’ the New History of the DC Universe, launches June 2025!

The DC Universe continues to undergo enormous changes. For instance, on the media side of things, last year James Gunn and Peter Safran announced began their all-new DC franchise with Creature Commandos — and will continue it with Superman this Summer.

Now, esteemed comics writer Mark Waid, renowned for works like The Flash, Kingdom Come, and Superman: Birthright, presents the New History of the DC Universe. This 4-issue chronicle follows Barry Allen’s journey from the birth of the DC Universe to the rise of the Justice Society and the Golden Age of Heroes.

The series begins in June, with issue #1 depicting the life of Barry Allen, aka The Flash, illustrated by Jerry Ordway and Todd Nauck.

“This is my dream project. It’s a chance to realign all of DC’s sprawling continuity into one master timeline, and to be joined by some of comics’ greatest artists to make it shine. With new information for even longtime fans, plus Easter eggs galore, this series will be an essential read for DC fans,” Waid said in a statement.

Nauck continued: “I’m having an absolute blast with this project. Mark has come up with something cool for me to draw on every page, and it’s been an honor to share art chores with a comics legend like Jerry Ordway. The DC editorial team has coordinated a wealth of deep-dive references for me to draw from, and I’m learning new aspects of DC history I hadn’t known before—and I’ve been reading DC comics for decades!”

“I am thrilled to be involved in telling the story of this newest DC Universe with Mark and Todd,” Jerry Ordway added.

This is a very exciting project, set to bring a level of clarity to readers. New History of the DC Universe #1 goes on sale June 25th at DC Comics. We’ll keep you posted on all the latest updates. In the meantime, consider subscribing to our free weekly newsletter!
