Prepare for a brand new set of stories set within the beloved world of The Lion King from acclaimed writer and artist Edwin Galmon.

The Lion King is one of the best-loved and most celebrated Disney movies of all-time. The original animated movie has already had a sequel. Plus, there’s a live-action movie, which also debuted a prequel Mufasa: The Lion King in 2024. And this November, the Lion King world returns in the form of a new comic from Edwin Galmon — who’s known for his work across the comics industry, including titans Marvel and DC. He’s also worked on Lilo & Stitch, The Terminator, and Mr. Terrific: Year One.

Published by Dynamite Comics, the comic follows the adventures of Mufasa and a young Simba. The official synopsis reads: Set in the golden time during the events of the Walt Disney Animation Studios 1994 film, Galmon’s new series takes place while Simba is young and before Scar has risen to power. Audiences will follow the ruler of the Pride Lands and his young heir as they navigate the complex web of relationships across their vast kingdom. Mufasa will teach his son how to defend their home against the forces that threaten their peace and harmony from both outside and within their pack.

“Having the honor and opportunity to work with the regal The Lion Kingfranchise is a humbling experience. This is where my childhood imagination meets my adulthood craftsmanship and with excitement, I hope people really enjoy the story we have cooked up!,” said writer and artist Edwin Galmon. “As a kid my favorite parts of The Lion King movie were all the scenes featuring Mufasa and Simba together because I related to how much I love and respect my dad. With that in mind, I wanted to have more father-son bonding, loving guidance, goofy playtimes and mentorship themes for Simba to enjoy with his dad.”

The Lion King comics also feature variant covers from Meghan Hetrick, Jacob Edgar, and Giulia Lomurno.

The series is set to launch this November. We’ll keep you posted on all the latest updates. Watch this space.
