Both Marvel and DC have dominated the box office in recent years. From record-breaking smash hits like Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, to standalone projects like Joker and The Batman — there’s no escaping superhero flicks. This year holds an interesting slate for both studios’ connected universes, including a big screen debut for James Gunn’s much-anticipated DC Studios.

Let’s take a tour of every big screen MCU and DCU movie coming in 2025.

Captain America: Brave New World

Release date: February 14, 2025

After Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson officially took hold of the reins and became the world’s new Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, fans have been very excited by what’s in store. Brave New World will mark his big-screen debut as Captain America, taking over from Chris Evans.

In the new movie, Sam Wilson finds himself tangled up in an international incident after meeting with President Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford). The deeper he explores the motives behind a sinister global plot; the more trouble he encounters. This includes a franchise debut for the mega-fearsome Red Hulk. Cap’s got his work cut-out! Release date: May 3, 2025

Thunderbolts* (the asterisk is part of the title) brings together a group of MCU antiheroes, including Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and John Walker (Wyatt Russell), who are recruited to undertake missions for the government.

We don’t know too much about the plot so far, but the return of so many popular characters is enough to get fans hyped. Some of these antiheroes we’ve only seen once in the franchise; a few of them will be making their big screen debuts. Watch the trailer below:

Superman

Release date: July 11, 2025

Superman is perhaps the most-anticipated superhero movie event of the year. The film kickstarts James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios universe, which hopes to compete with the MCU. It commences the first phase of the franchise: DC Universe Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

Gunn’s DC universe has already gotten off to a stellar start, thanks to Creature Commandos. But there’s no doubt that Superman will be the franchise’s first hallmark event.

The movie sees David Corenswet make his debut as the Man of Steel, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The movie has certainly taken on Gunn’s signature style and whacky, whimsical humour. Watch the trailer:
