Fantagraphics to Publish Robert Crumb’s ‘Tales Of Paranoia’

Seminal cartoonist Robert Crumb, age 81, returns to comics after a hiatus of over two decades with Tales of Paranoia

Fantagraphics have announced that they will publish Robert Crumb’s latest work, Tales of Paranoia, later this year. The release will be part of celebration of the publisher’s 50th anniversary.

Robert Crumb is one of the most influential cartoonists in comic book history. A leading figure in the underground comix movement, Crumb’s works dived into adult themes such as sex, drugs, and politics — all of which were rare in the medium at the time. His style was pioneering, personal, and hugely provocative. Some of his most notable works include ZAP Comix, which became a collaborative platform for other creatives.

Per Fantagraphics, the official description for Tales of Paranoia reads: Mixing memoir, essay, polemic, neurosis, and conspiracy across 12 short comics—including the final Dirty Laundry story, drawn by Crumb from a script written with Aline Kominsky-Crumb before her death in 2022 —Tales Of Paranoia shows there’s still plenty of life in both the artist and the classic underground comics format.
