Glenn (Steven Yeun) was one of the most popular characters in The Walking Dead, until he was brutally beaten to death in the infamous season 7 premiere.
When Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) beat Glenn to death in the season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead, The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be, it sent shockwaves through the fandom. Having narrowly escaping death in a previous episode, Glenn was subsequently beaten to death by Negan with his barbed-wire baseball bat Lucille, in front of his pregnant wife Maggie (Lauren Cohan).
The killings of both Abraham and Glenn, within minutes of each other, is regarded as one of the most infamous episodes in television history. While Glenn escaped death once by hiding beneath a dumpster, his actual death scene left nothing to the imagination. It was incredibly harrowing and visceral. It also marked the moment when droves of fans stopped watching the show; it was the final straw.
Looking to the franchise’s future, AMC chief content officer Scott Gimple sees potential for Glenn to return. Perhaps there’s space for a one-shot prequel special, in the style of a Tales of The Walking Dead episode. Or maybe a dream sequence, which the franchise has utilised numerous times over the years.
Speaking to ScreenRant, Gimple weighed in on the possibility. “I think it comes to mind all the time,” he said. “In some ways, it’s a pretty obvious way to go. But it would obviously be enjoyable for all of us. Steven is a remarkably busy dude, though – not to say that these folks aren’t. You never know, I guess I’d say, but we never went that far with it.”
Never say never. Sounds like it’s a tough time for the team to find a gap in Yeun’s tight schedule. Currently, Steven Yeun is voicing superhero Mark Grayson in Prime Video’s animated adaptation of Invincible, based on the comic by Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.
Yeun has already completed voice work for Invincible season 5. The forthcoming 4th season premieres on Prime Video in 2026. We’ll keep you posted on all the latest updates.
