The way we consume comic books may be about to change! Image Comics has announced that they’re teaming up with new digital comic book store Sweet Shop; launching this summer!
Currently, some of the most popular ways people read comics digitally is through services like ComiXology and GlobalComix. But now there’s a new service on the block. Introducing Sweet Shop, which has recently revealed a partnership with publishing giant Image Comics to bring nearly 400 of Image’s most popular comics to its app. This includes Spawn, Invincible, The Walking Dead, Transformers, and Ghost Machine!
The new app is being regarded as ‘groundbreaking’ at Image, where they will host countless creator-owned projects. “We’re always looking for great ways to get our comics into readers’ hands, and Sweet Shop is shaping up to be an exciting new option. We’re thrilled to have so many incredible creator-owned titles available at launch,” said Lorelei Bunjes, the VP of Digital Strategy at Image.
The new app comes with a few fresh features that’ll be welcome to comic readers. For instance, it supports vertical scrolling, as well as right-to-left and left-to-right reading depending on relevant titles and user preference. Moreover, comics can be purchased in-app or in DRM-free download format.
In a statement, Sweet’s owner, Kenny Meyers celebrated the collaboration with Image, bringing some of the most coveted titles to the platform:
“Image Comics publishes some of the absolute best comics in the business, with a model that is wonderful to creators,” he said. “We are huge fans of the work they do, and couldn’t be more excited to release their titles for purchase day and date around the globe.”
