SYFY’s live-action adaptation of Tim Seeley’s beloved comic Revival has got its first trailer. Plus, the series has confirmed a June release date.
Image Comics has an esteemed history when it comes to TV adaptations. Look no further than The Walking Dead, Invincible, Spawn — the list goes on. The latest comic to get the television treatment is Revival, based on the comic of the same name by Tim Seeley and illustrated by Mike Norton.
Revival ran for 47 issues from 2012 to 2017. The series sets the scene in a small town in Wisconsin, where the dead come back to life. However, they don’t return in the way you might imagine. They’re not zombies, for instance. This time, the dead return as themselves… kind of. The series falls into the noir/horror genre, with plenty of mystery and intrigue thrown in.
Revival was always cited as a great option for a live-action adaptation. The requisite adaptation, from showrunners Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce, ultimately landed at SYFY. It stars Melanie Scrofano (of Wynonna Earp fame) as well as Romy Weltman, David James Elliott, and Andy McQueen. Former The Walking Dead star Steven Ogg is also involved. The official synopsis reads: “On one miraculous day in rural Wisconsin, the recently deceased suddenly rise from their graves. But this is no zombie story as the ‘revived’ appear and act just like they once were. When local Officer and single mother Dana Cypress is unexpectedly thrown into the center of a brutal murder mystery of her own, she’s left to make sense of the chaos amidst a town gripped by fear and confusion where everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.”
Revival premieres on Thursday, June 12 at 10 p.m. on SYFY. Episodes will then land on streamer Peacock one week after they air.
